TOPIC 3 TEAM 2: MEDIA & SOCIAL RELATIONS PATTERNS, AUGMENTED REALITY

  • Augmented reality (AR) is the term used to define the vision of a physical environment of the real world, through a technological device. Tangible physical elements are combined with virtual elements.

    Elements of Augmented reality

    -Techniques of visualization

    • Augmented Reality Goggles (HMD) is used to display both the pictures of places in the physical and social world where the user is located as the virtual objects on the current view.

    • The handheld display uses position sensors such as GPS and digital compasses. Subsequently the use of systems, such as ARToolKit, allows to add digital information to video sequences in real time, that is, to merge physical / real elements with digitals elements. Its two main advantages are the portable nature of portable devices and the possibility of being applied on camera phones.

    • Augmented spatial projection reality (SAR) makes use of digital projectors to display graphic information about physical objects. The key difference is that the screen is separate from the system users. Because there is no screen associated with each user, it allows groups of users to use it at the same time and coordinate the work between them. It is a useful tool for designing, since it allows to visualize a reality that is tangible.

    -Elements for overlapping realities

    • Camera. It is the device that captures the image of the real world. It can be the webcam of the computer or the camera of the smartphone or the tablet.

    • Processor. It is the hardware element that combines the image with the information to be overlapped, that is, the device that is used.

    • Software. It is the specific software that manages the process.

    • Display. It shows combined the real and virtual elements.

    • Internet Connection. It is used to send the real environment information to a remote server and retrieve the associated virtual information that overlaps.

    • Activator. Actually we can found a lot of types of activators, there's the QR code, number code, fingerprint...

    (AR) Technology

    Contact lenses

Contact lenses that display AR imaging are in development. These bionic contact lenses might contain the elements for display embedded into the lens including integrated circuitry, LEDs and an antenna for wireless communication. The first contact lens display was reported in 1999 and subsequently, 11 years later, in 2010/2011 another version of contact lenses, in development for the U.S. military, is designed to function with AR spectacles, allowing soldiers to focus on close-to-the-eye AR images on the spectacles and distant real world objects at the same time. The futuristic short film Sight features contact lens-like augmented reality devices.

    Applications

    -New generation of smartphone

One application of a pair of AR will replace the smartphone, as with glasses or other device that shows you a screen like that of a smartphone with the same functions and more.

    -Tridimensional designed or draw

A virtual reality system that allows you to design or draw 3D objects in a virtual space within the same reality.
