Second Training Meeting Tenerife

  • Tenerife 22nd - 26th February 2018

The partners of the project met once again, this time in Tenerife. This time to observe and explore new insights on school organization. The main topic we covered was mediation, but we also visited some schools in order to observe some of their everyday practice.

On Monday 22nd February the partners met and discussed over the week planning and the general progress of the project. It was great to gather again and see our project is on track.

We started Tuesday with another meeting. This time we devoted two hours to talk about our new project webpage, the outcomes, and some other details like agreeing on some internal deadlines. After a fika, we shared some time with a group of teachers who are in charge of coexistence in their respective schools in the south of Tenerife. In the first part of our experience, we attended a training session specifically designed for these teachers. Afterwards, we could interview them and exchange opinions about many aspects of school organization which cause an impact on school coexistence. We could also have the chance to see many things from a different perspective and therefore, we could broaden our knowledge about this particular topic.

In the afternoon we ran three small workshops of one hour each. Some teachers from the area enrolled and showed up. This was a fulfilling experience. The Polish team devised a thoroughly planned  ICT workshop. We explored many web pages and their possibilities in mixed teams, trying to complete all the activities designed for us. Later, the Swedish team performed the Three-part conversation workshop and tried to test part of the training session they are just about to complete. Finally, the Spanish team led a lecture on how to apply for a KA2 project and those aspects that have more impact in order for a project to be found eligible.

On Wednesday we visited CEIP Barranco de las Torres. They showed us their English lessons, where we could chat with the kids, and their orchard. We witnessed how they use this resource to integrate it into their lessons and how they have enlisted the aid of volunteers. Stepping into a pre-Primary class was also a nice experience since there we could see how small children start to write and how they have divided the playground into different areas, so to make the most of the space and make different areas for different activities during break time.

The following day the team headed north and visited an award-winning school which has implemented many changes in the last few years. The headmistress and the head of studies welcomed us toured us around their school. We could observe an English class, the orchard, the Maths lab and a pre.Primary class. We could also see some of the projects they are carrying out and how they have managed to engage families in school life.In the afternoon we visited Garachico and Icod de Los Vinos, which are two old towns in the islands, full of traditions and landmarks.

The last day we visited Las Galletas Secondary school, where student mediators explained their role in the school (in the journal section you can find a small video). The teachers also gave a wonderful lecture on mediation at school. After that, we proceeded to do the feedback of the week and said goodbye.

Now the team is longing for the next training meeting in Sweden.
