B.3-LTT5 / French and maths lessons by French teachers

  • As an expert of the CLIL pedagogy, we wanted to mix those CLIL tools with outdoor learning.

At « La Corricella », we conducted a French vocabulary learning with two classes of Presschool.

We used flashcards and offered several exercices so that children learned a new vocabulary. The words were : LA PORTE, LES FENETRES, L’ESCALIER, LE BATEAU, LES FILETS.

In a first time, we showed the flashcards one after one and give their name.

In a second time, we showed them again by giving their name and the pupils repeated after us.

In a third time, we showed the flashcards several times by changing the voice (slowly, fast,…) and the pupils repeated after us. So they could play with the tones of the language.

In a fourth time, we didn’t speak any more and the pupils named the flascards.

So that pupils are even more involved in learning new words, we made severals games.

    • To name pictures wich are hidden (The magic eyes)

    • To repeat to a friend the word heard and to show what is heard. (Chinese Whisper of several ways)

The pupils moved, ran. They encouraged each other. They were totaly involved to learn the french vocabulary

Then in a circle, we mimed the words.

It’s also a very important step in learning and in memorizing new words.

Then we offered the children a counting game (the buddies of numbers)

In a first time, we gave each pupil a number card or a quantity card or a card with a constellation of points or a card with a quantity of little monsters. The pupils had to look for their buddies of numbers and to make groups. For exemple :  the group of the number 5, or the group of the number 2,…

In a second time, we put the card on the flour. Each pupil came to pick up one card, he had to look for his buddies of numbers and to make a group like the game before. Then each group had to look for and to show the teachers as many objects as the number or the quantity written on the card.

Being outside, manipulating, moving promote understanding and memorization.

Cooperation also promotes the involvement of all pupils even those with special needs.
