Project "Christmas in Europe"

  • Christmas is for people, especially for children, an important experience. The Project „Christmas in Europe” points Christmas tradition in European countries. The project is aimed at cultural orientation and language development.

    Students can learn Christmas tradition, play online games, sing Christmas songs and make Christmas crafts. We want to make Christmas E-book with Christmas decoration from our countries, a Christmas dictionary, create Christmas cards and send them to the schools in the project, online meetings with students from the project.

    Students can improve their English skills.

    Key competences in the project "Christmas in Europe"

    - communication in the mother tongue and foreign languages

    In the project “Christmas in Europe” students develop the key competence communication in the mother tongue and foreign languages. In the students’ online meetings children greet in their mother tongues, teach each other basic words in ther languages. In these online meetings students speak English: they introduce themselves, ask questions e.g. What’s your name? How old are you?, sing together songs. Students send each other Christmas cards – they work in international groups. Speaking in a foreign language makes students feel they can communicate with other people in real life and meaningful contexts. Students make video with greetings in their mother tongues and then they will watchand listen their European friends’ videos.

    - digital competence

    In the project “Christmas in Europe” students learn and use a lot of apps e.g. Kahoot, Canva, Festisite, wheeldecide. Students learn in creative, interesting and modern way using apps. Digital competence involves the creative, critical and safe use of information and communication technologies to achieve objectives learning.

    - learning to learn

    In the project “Christmas in Europe” students “learn to learn”. It means – they learn organization and management of learning, they control the learning processes. The competence of learning to learn leads to increasingly efficient and autonomous learning. The best example is working in pairs or groups making e.g. project logo, playing online games in groups or making picture to Christmas dictionary.

    - social and civic competences

    In the project “Christmas in Europe” students develop social and civic competences. They learn Christmas traditions of European schools, European Christmas songs/ carols (students will make Christmas Ebook with photos of winter landscapes, Christmas ornaments etc.) In classes students work in groups (groups are diverse), they learn how to make decisions, solve problems and make known their pleasure.

    - sense of initiative and entrepreneurship

    In the project “Christmas in Europe” students learn following skills and abilities: planning, organization, management and decision-making skills, ability to solve problems, effective communication, presentation, leadership, sense of responsibility, self-confidence and evaluation. Students learn these skills working in groups and pairs e.g. making project logo, making pictures to Christmas dictionary, meet students in the online meetings.

    - cultural awareness and expression

    Students work in multicultural groups, they get with European Christmas traditions. They learn respect to other cultures.
