THE MEETING OF CARE HOME RESIDENTS AND PUPILS OF II. OSNOVNA ŠKOLA ČAKOVEC

On Thursday, 9th December 2021, a virtual meeting of residents of The Care Home for Elderly People Novinščak and first graders of our school, II. osnovna škola Čakovec, was held. Initially, this meeting was planned as a visit of pupils and teachers to the home. Due to the restrictions caused by the coronavirus, we decided to organise an online meeting.

As we are approaching Christmas, we asked the care home residents to tell us stories of how they used to spend Christmas holidays as children, which they gladly accepted.

The children learnt about traditions in their home region and some other parts of the country. They were also able to compare how people spent their holidays in the country and the city.

In the following part of the meeting, the children performed two songs, which they rehearsed especially for this occasion.

This meeting helped us achieve the aims of our project: develop students' competence in applying knowledge into practice in literacy education, increase the self-esteem of students with fewer opportunities and strengthen students' empathy towards different age and social groups.
