  • Celebrating the International Day dedicated to persons with disabilities, Mr. Michael Lemonis, a paralympic athlete was invited to our school. He talked to our 6th-grade pupils about his life, his studies at the university, his daily routine, his difficulties and his struggle to become a Paralympic athlete and panhellenic champion of boccia, a sport played by athletes with severe physical disabilities.

Our pupils had the chance to narrate the story "Battle for Life" written last year by pupils of our school for the Day of European Union Rights. We talked about the need for respect, support and equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of their physical appearance or abilities. We also talked about the importance of being tolerant towards people that may differ as well as the need to appreciate them as they are, free of acts of discrimination, fear or marginalisation.

    .

After the meeting, we also created collaboratively a poster with our feelings and thoughts, encouraging a positive attitude towards all people with physical or mental disabilities.
