EARTH DAY at Eastburn School, UK

  • Here at Eastburn, we have now completed all our Earth Day activities.
Have a look at all our photos here.

First, we spent time in the school garden weeding, planting and learning more about how the plants help to reduce greenhouse gases.

To help us understand how electricity is supplied to homes and schools, through the national grid, we connnected together a network of towns and villages, using our own 'grid'. We used string instead of cables and ourselves as electricity pylons!

We also found out that, in many countries, not everyone has access to electricity from the national grid. So we looked again at renewable energy sources. They do not need to be linked to the grid and don't use fossil fuels.

Our final challenge was to work in teams to design and make wind turbine blades. It was tricky, but we were very pleased with the final results.

We hope you enjoyed looking at these pictures and had as much fun learning as we did.
The results of our energy use survey will be ready soon too.
Everyone made a big effort to reduce how much electricity and gas they were wasting to see if we can improve.
