Steeton School energy meter work

  • Steeton School UK - researching how much energy is used in school using a power meter

We have installed a domestic power meter to a mains cable supplying our school kitchen, ICT suite and library.  We will use this to monitor our electricity usage.

The power meter consists of a wireless device (see picture below), powered by batteries, that fits around a large electricity cable.

This device can be fitted near the electricity meter in a cupboard, not accessible by the children, and transmits power usage data to a receiver, (see below).

These devices have now been fitted and will allow the children to monitor our electricity usage and to think about strategies for reducing the amount of electricity we use.

The two photographs below shows the wireless transmitter fitted in the electricity cupboard.

The photograph below shows the meter in a safe place where the children can record how much power we are using at any time.
