The Yellow Butterfly Activity

  • On 28 January 2021, students and teachers commemorate the Holocaust victims as part of an online activity on the meet. Students shared their works they have done under the slogan "the butterfly don't live/fly in the ghetto".

Starting as a way to educate schoolchildren about the Holocaust, the Butterfly project has developed as a global phenomenon: http://butterflies.hmh.org/about/

Over 20 years, the Butterfly project has sparked the imagination of millions and created over 1,5 million amazing butterflies, manually work from any material, color and shape. Inspired by the poetry “I have never seen another butterfly” written by Pavel Friedmann, a Czech young man who wrote at the Terezin concentration camp, the project is a homage to the lives of the young people lost in the Holocaust. But it has become much more than that.

Today, the Butterfly project is trying to destroy this negativity and aims to inspire people to use hope as a vehicle for social change, using for educational purposes the experiences of Holocaust victims.

The project's mission is to achieve, around 27 January, a global conversation, which provokes all of us, the prey-teachers, to find the connection by hope (symbolized by the yellow butterfly) - to motivate and take action against global hatred together.

Here there are some drawings, poems and pictures by our students and our online meeting where we shared the activities and product.

Our yellow butterfly are flying all over the Europe!
