What kind of world would you like to live in?

There's a world of opportunity to re-think and re-design the way we make stuff. 'Re-Thinking Progress' explores how through a change in perspective we can re-design the way our economy works - designing products that can be 'made to be made again' and powering the system with renewable energy. It questions whether with creativity and innovation we can build a restorative economy.

    Hi all!
I always use reusable bags when I go shopping. I sewed my own shopping bag, also for some of my family members. Sometimes I give clothes that didn ´t fit me anymore to charity or I design something new from it. You can create so many intersting and beautiful things if you want to. For example in times like these you can use an old t-shirt to make face masks. I try to use glass bottles, but when I buy a plastic bottle I reuse it a few times. You can fill it with water and use it more often that only one time. When you have shoes you don ´t wear anymore, you also can design something new. You can paint them, if you need inspiration you can go to pinterest. Also you can search for other things that you would like to recycle. All the best!

    India O. from Austria
    Iva M., Croatia

I believe, small things can make big change, therefore we all should at least try to recycle things we don't use anymore. I, personally, attempt to buy food and other products without plastic wraps or such materials that damage environment. Whenever I outgrew my clothes, when I was a child, my mom gave it to others that didn't have much and even now, when I notice that I don't wear some pieces I give them to charity. Apart from that when I brush my teeth I always turn off the water so I don't waste it; I know it is really small thing that I can do but it is something. Furthermore, my family and I, we have always recycled and did waste sorting. Lastly, at school I use my own water bottle which is reusable.

    Sarah - Austria

When I go to school and I have many things I use a paper bag or a linen bag. I never take a plastic bag with me. At home I use many things until they are broken but I give away old clothes away to neighboors or friends or to a charity three times a year. There are sometimes unwanted clothes that I don't need. I often sew new clothes with stuff I don't wear any more. When I go out I take a own bottle with water with me. What you should definitely do is to reduce plastic. You should be more environment-conscious. You also should things use several times and not throw them away after using them once. There are a lot of videos with many ideas and life tips that are very useful.

    Laura,K. Austria

I use tuperware for things to pack so I don´t have to waste plastic bags. When I go shopping I also bring my rucksack with me . You can also take a material bag instead of a backpack. And instead of buying so much clothes you can recycle it and for example make a new shirt out of an old one. I made masks for my family and me out of old shirts. Try and buy food that is not packaged in plastic. Instead of the plastic straws we use glass and metal straws.

    Vanessa G. Austria

When I go shopping I always try to take my own bag with me and if I forget I only use bags that are made of paper or that you can use more often. I use things like phone or laptop for as long as possible and only get a new one when it is really broken.

    Chiara G. - Austria

For shopping, I use fabric bags that I use more

Often and this avoids plastic bags. I also take my old clothes to second hand shops or give them to friends to avoid trash.

    Adila S. Austria

When i go to the supermarket i always bring a shopping bag with me so i dont need to buy one there. If dont have a bag with me i buy the paper bags. At home when i have cloths that are to small for me i give them to my sister or i make some new things out of the matirial. I often use metal straws so i dont need to use the plastic ones and i alwasy bring my one water bottle with me so i dont need to buy one. Some other things i do is alwayse go to school by foot.

    Melinda S. Austria

    Hello all!
So for me it is like this....
When I go shopping I always take a basket or my fabric bag with me.
My family pays a lot of attention to this. We try to avoid plastic as much as possible.
And for example when I have a lot of clothes that I don't wear anymore, I always send them to Kosovo and give them to my cousins.

    Alisa B. Austria

When I go shopping, it is best to take a fabric bag. At home I do not drink from bottles but take a glass and drink, meanwhile there are water or drinks in glass bottles. I also separate garbage very consciously, because that is important to me. One should be considerate of the world. There are plenty of examples of using less plastic for packaging in the future, because I find it very unnecessary. At the supermarket I don´t need to buy a bag, because I take one with me. I think you should also use things more often.

    Gabriela K. Austria

Personally, I pay attention to the fact that every time I go shopping I don't always buy a bag. That's why I always take ashopping bag from home with me. As we have all noticed, the sale of plastic bags has already become very low. However, if it is the case, I prefer to buy paper bags. In my opinion, it is also very important to recycle clothes, plastic bottles or even metal. Personally, I always put my old stuff into certain Caritas Container.

    Giulia H. Austria

I always bring my own bag when i go shopping, so i dont have to buy a new one! I also try to recycle my trash every time, and rip it apart if there is, as an example a packaging that includes plastic and paper. I think everyone should do that, that should be normal. But why isn't it already normal? people preach about recycling snd saving the environment but can't even do the easiest tasks to help. That's just laziness.

    Lukas - Austria

    Hello!
So my mum has alway a fabric bag with her when she is shopping so she hasn't to use the plastic bags. And we had Milk from the supermarket in glas but now we only buying milk in glas from a farmer in a Courtyard shop. And we have some bags where we collect our old clothes and when it is full we put it into a certain Caritas Container.

    Caroline S. (Austria)

I think there are many ways of making a change for the environment. At the supermarket, there should be more things which get bottled there, like shampoo, soap, rice, noodles. So that means you bring your own packaging with you and this reduces a lot of plastic trash.
For women there are menstruation cups (replacement for tampons), you can wash them after you used it and you can wear it infinitely often.
For shopping in general you should always bring your own cotton bag, it doesn´t need much space in a handbag or the car.

Everybody needs to change their mind set, because together we could change a lot.

    Ana S., Croatia

    My commitment
With small things we can make big changes.
When I go shopping, I use fabric or paper bags which I can use multiple times. My grandma and I make fabric bags and I love them, because I can use my creativity to make something new.
Clothes that I don’t wear I usually give to my relatives or I donate it to Red Cross where people can bring their old clothes which is still good for wearing so people who don’t have can wear it. Clothes that can no longer be worn I turn into something new, for example bags.
I am against all single-use plastic products and I avoid using them. Plastic straws can be replaced with metal one, instead of plastic we can use paper glasses and other things that we use for eating when we are outdoor.

    Haizea, Basque Country

There are several ways we can reuse products. For example I when I go shopping I always use a cloth bag so I don't have to use plastic every time I go. And if I ever use one of plastic I reuse it at home but try to use it as little as possible. In addition, from time to time I do cleaning in my closet and clothes that I do not use donating to those who need it most. There are also other things like phones or computers that don't throw it until they are really broken.

But on the other hand, I could also do better as for example by consuming fewer products like clothing because doing so pollutes a lot like telephones and all the technology.

Ander A. and Ekain E. (Basque Country)

Circular economy is really necessary for us. We have to look after our world, animals and plants. It's really important to keep the environment safe.

Many supermarkets use plastic bags, and most of their products are wrapped in plastic. That prevents the possibility of circular economy because of the fact that large amounts of plastics are used and they cannot be recycled. If supermarkets used recyclable materials such as paper, this problem would be solved. Another option is reusing plastic bags until they cannot be used again.

We have to use a lot of containers in order to be able to recycle. We should continue using a container for plastic, another one for paper, another for glass, another one for trash, another for organic, another for batteries and another for oil.

    Ziortza O, Spain

Nowadays, we are use to go shopping and buy a lot of things that we don't need, and it isn't good for the nature or for the world in general. If we think, we can do a lot of things to reduce this, and I am not going to talk about taking bags instead of plastic bags or those things that we are use to listen. I would say, that it would be also a good idea to reuse all the things we let in our staterooms: bicycles, TVs, movile phones... Why don't we repair our bikes instead of buying a new and a better one? If we only need it to move around the city, we can repair our old bicycle and ride it to go to different places.

Nerea P. and Saioa G., Basque Country

If we talk about recycling, we think a global issue, but if we focus on ourselves, we find several cases. We are going to analice what we can improve not to pollute our Earth. For example, if we talk about the parties we make at home (not now because of Covid-19), we have to admit that, normally, we put all the rubbish together instead of recycling it. This is something what we can change easily.

    Aroa-Spain

There are many actions that you can take to Reduce the air pollution. First, we can conserve energy, at home, at work, everywhere. Then we can carpool, use public transportation, bike, or walk whenever possible. With this we reduce the number of trips you take in our car and we can reduce the pollution. Another thing that we can do is recycle. With this we can separating the things and this is positive to the pollution.

    Iratxe and Gorka (Basque Country)

Decide how you can commit to a change:

When we go to the supermarket, we always have our reusable bag, because of that, we always carry the purchase. Sometimes we don't carry a bag, so we don't take a plastic bag. At home I always shower in 5 minutes with cold water, and recycle the plastic that we bought. We always have the lights down. We always bring our metal bottle of water... We always avoid to buy plastic, and if we buy something with plastic we always recycle.
    Thank you for reading

    Maider R. (Basque Country)

Small acts can help making a big changes, so I think that we all should at least try to reduce our ecological footprint. I commit to reuse the plastic bags that I have in my house and to only purchase reusable bags, like tote bags from now on.

    Eba, Spain

I always wait to buy a new phone until my phone is completely broken and there is no solution for it. I also buy things that don't implicate enormous amounts of plastic. And when I go shopping I always carry a backpack or a tote bag so that the waste of plastic isn't that drastic.

    Garazi N., Basque Country

Years have passed years since the scientists started to tell us that the time of saving the planet is running, however, we still have time. Nowadays I think that a lot of people take action inconscientely, but here are more things we can do. For example, we can start by simple things like using your own bags at the supermarket or carrying a reusable bottle. There are more bigger things we can do too, like using a bicycle or the bus instead of a car, traveling by train when posible instead of a plane or stop buying in big companies like Inditex. Another option could be to stop eating meat for example.

    Irati Basque Country

I think that we can do little things that help the environment. For example, when I go shopping I usually bring a bag so I don't have to use the plastic bags that they give you in the shops. In the other hand, I use a reusable water bottle to don't buy one every time I am thirsty. I could take the commitment to use more alternatives to plastic wraps in home, like bee wax wraps and cristal containers. Like that I would help the world and my pocket, because I wouldn't spend so much money in wraps. Other thing that I could improve is the clothing stuff, I could swap or donate clothes with my friends not to buy more that I really don't need. With this little changes we can improve the situation of our envirorment.

    Xabi Basque country

I think that we should be better people with our planet. Sometimes people don't think in nature and as a result we can see forests and oceans full of plastic. That shouldn't happen in this world, but sadly there are people who are not able to think in anything which are not themselves, that people is called selfish. Those are the worst ones but not the only ones. I have to admit that I could also do things in a better way, for example the recycling is something that I don't always put in practise. We could also help if we reused more products, not all the products, but some of them. It would be helpful for the environment.
    Thanks for reading!

Kabir and Egoitz, Basque Country, for a better world

Nowadays, we all know that these three ideas are very important, (Reduce, reuse, recycle), but we have to start for the first step.

The supermarket should reduce their plastics envelops; for example in some shops the apples are in plastic bags, and this must be forbidden. Apart from that, the next step is to reuse, such as plastic bottles. We can use them more than ones, or use them like a flowerpot, instead of buying a new one. According to the plastic envelops that we use to cover our sandwiches, we have to recycle them, by throwing them to the plastic container, and if we eat a banana for the snack, the peeling must be thrown to a green place or to a organic bin, and not in the middle of the street.
In conclusion, we have to go step by step achieving the final objective of 0 plastic use.

Asier P. and Josu P. (Basque Country)

Firstly, when we go shopping we don't buy plastic water bottles because we don't want to fill the house with plastic. So to avoid this problem we always we throw the bottles we buy into the rubbish bin or we use different type of bottles which are made of different materials. Apart from that, in our houses we recycle all types of material, for example we have the yellow container to the throw the plastic, the blue container to throw the papers and cardboard and finally we have one which we use to throw the compost. We use a lot products which are of second-hand and usually they are technological products. We believe that we should recycle more and that when there is rubbish on the street we should pick it up and know that these small actions can improve the world.

Mikel, Uxue, Urko Mtz. and Imanol (Basque Country)

Nowadays, we are used to go shopping and buy a lot of things that we don't need, and it isn't good for the nature. For example, we buy plastic bags at the supermarket or we use plastic bottles instead of glass bottles.

In order to change this situation we have to make a significant action. We should make our economy circular.
So we should start reducing, reusing and recycling, and start using for example bmboo straws instead of plastic straws.

    Aingeru.H-KM

We are used ti buy a lot of things that we don't usually need and we also buy things in sustitution of others that can be fixed so why don't we fixed the things we have. Also another solution is to reuse things and for this if we are not going to use we can sold them online to other people that want them and that they are going to use it.

    Alazne and Sergio (Basque Country)

When we go to the supermarket we take with us reusable bags and we try not to buy products which they are packed into lot of plastic. At home we recycle and reuse the rubbish. In addition we reuse the old clothes and we use it to make rags or as a pijama. When we have some rubbish at home we try to recycle it properly. We don't use to much the car, but if we have to use it we use or the public transport or an electric car.

    Karen - Santander (Spain)

Personally, I try to be more conscious about the enviroment, buying only necessary things and being careful of mantaining them as long as possible. I also customize some clothes to give them another life. And when I'm not going to wear them anymore I donate them to people who want or need them.

    Samuel, Guillermo and Sandra (Santander)

The three of us have decided to contribute to the environment by using reusable water bottles instead of using each time a plastic bottle as it seriously damages our world. Another mesmerizing idea is to use reusable bags as well, whenever we go to the supermarket.

    Hi!
In my opinion, it's really important to do something by ourselves. For example, when you go shopping. I always have my backpack with me so I don't use plastic bags.
When going to fast food, they usually have paper straws, and not plastic, so It's an improvement.
You can also make your own face mask from old t-shirts!
I think all of this is an improvement.

    Aneta N Czech Republic

I can help our planet by recycling waste. I can also shop in a wrapper shop and carry my own canvas bags. I think the most important things is to recycle. I´ll give my clothes that i don´t wear to my younger cousin.

    Marika Czech republic

I always carry my own bag to shops, and i give my old clothes to my younger cousins or i sell it. All my family recycle and i think thats very important. Im trying to use my old things and making something useful from them.

    Filip (Czechia)

Me and my family try to help Earth. We recycling, we don't use disposable packaging and plastic bags or thing from anything from this material. When we go somewhere, we take our bottles with water, and take our packaging. On the garden we have composter, so we don't thrown rotten vegetables, fruit or old plants to mixed waste.

    Aneta R. (Czech Republic)

we should recycle more. We should not use disposable products. We should go to the shops with our own bags. We have to sort waste, not throw it in nature and I can try to eat bette.

    Míša N. (Czech Republic)

Don´t buy a new phone every year. Don´t drive unnecessarily to places we can walk. Waste recycling - plastic, paper, glass...Don´t use plastic bags. Don´t fly often.

    Zuzka (Czech republic)

At The supermarket we can use cloth bags, not The plastic. Because we can wash The cloth ones. At home we can recycle. These things should help a lot.

    David, Tábor

You can take some non-plastic bags to your supermarket and then, if you finish and use the stuff, you bought, you just recycle it.
At home you can use alternatives to almost everything. For example paper straws, which I think are horrible, but it is also possibility. On the go just throw your rubbish to rubbishcans and not to nature.

    Natalie (Czech republic)

One of the options is for 100% to recycle. In our family we recycle as much as we can and i´m glad that we are doing this for our own good. It makes me feel better about my self that i´m doing something instead of nothing. When we are at home we have 3 bags one for glass, paper and plastic. That´s how we recycle in our home. And evyryone is doing this, i hope.

    Kateřina (Czech republic)

It would be good to use things that can be recycled or reused. Shopping bags take canvas or fishnet. We can eat these things more than once.Don't buy so many plastic bottles and have one and top up your water. We will not destroy the planet so much.

    Antonie R. (Czech Republic)

There are many ways to change the environment. For example, when I am going to the supermarket, I always bring my reusable bag. It is especially important to use reusable things because even little things can help our planet. We always recycling waste. We have to take care of our planet!

    Vilma (Czech Republic)

When I go shopping I always take a bag with me that I can use more than once, I practically use it until it tears.
I always try to have my bag with me, even if I don't go shopping regularly.
At home we agreed that we will use plastic bags only when absolutely necessary, we only use them for pastries.
Thanks to the fact that we have a cat at home that has to go to the toilet every day, we started using used plastic bags to clean her toilet.

    Nela (Czech Republic)

We can buy clothes after somebody else. Or furniture or many other things. Also we can use fabric bags instead of plastic or own reusable bottles. Of course we should recycle as much as we can. And when we go to some trip we can bring our own food and drink. We don't always have to buy fast food in plastic "dishes". And the last thing I would like to notice is that we don't have to eat meat every day. There's no need to.

    Klara- Czech Republic

I think we could use the reusable bags, or make one bag ourselves from some fabric at home. We should definitaly recycle. If we dont want to wear some clothes we can give it to some charity or make something from the fabric. And if we are outside and have some rubbish and there is no bin, we have to wait until there is some bin and dont just throw it away in nature.

    Ondra (Czech republic)

Hi! My name is Ondra and this is my few things to help our planet. it is useless to make plastic bottles when it is possible to do otherwise. For example Sodastream. Im not paid for the ad but i love Sodastream! Easy, tasty and usefull to our planet. Empty bombs can be recycle.

In my opinion the little steps in trying to commit a change it's a lot. I think I would choose a change in a supermarket like using simple reusable bags or bringing your own bags. We think that it's nothing but for our planet, the problem with climate, it's a lot. Another thing that we can do is buy unpacked products. When we do something like this, we don’t use the necessary plastic and again do a big thing for our planet.

    Wiktoria K. 2cG Kopernik

Being in a supermarket, I can only buy the food I need, so as not to waste it later. At home, I can save water, e.g. take a shower instead of taking a bath in the bathtub. Energy-saving bulbs can also be purchased to save light. When I leave the house I can take a filter water bottle with me so I don't buy it on the way.

    Paulina 2cG Kopernik Poland

In the shop, I can use my own shopping bag to avoid taking plastic bags. I could buy the food I need on an ongoing basis so as not to waste it. At home, I can recycle plastic and glass. I could also give away clothes that I don't use anymore to other people. I can also save light consumption in my house by turning it off when I am not in the room.

Hungary Reduce Reuse Recycle - Wabi Sabi Project

Our Project was created during eTwinning and Sustainable week.
Wabi-sabi is a traditional Japanese form of art, which emphasizes the beauty of nature and imperfection. It goes up against the ruling aesthetics which we are all familiar with today, believing that objects and people don’t have to be perfect to be exquisite.
Anyone can follow the ways of wabi-sabi and turn their surroundings in to their liking. Simply renovate something old in your house, but do not try avoiding making small mistakes: that’s the main idea of wabi-sabi. Furthermore, it also aids nature by reusing materials that were meant to be thrown out and learning how to not waste everyday goods will help the environment a great deal.
