Work Process

  • Starting the project: Schools and students presentations

    On line Pretest https://forms.gle/5LerBS3PY2L1tuTy5
    Presentations and exchanges between pupils,
Communication of the geographic coordinates of the school
    Localization on a Google map

With more than 4000 photos of measures, we prefer to store them in the folders of a Google drive, to not slow down the display of the page materials/images. The page materials/images is reserved for school photos, Geogebra figures (about 600) and screenshots of tables of measures (about 600) are also published in materials/images

    Annual progress

Depending on specific conditions (curriculum, level of students, etc.), schools adapt their annual progress. A progression in 5 sequences is proposed in the Pedagogical module.

    Important dates

Fixed dates such as the solstices (June and December) and equinoxes (March and September), as well as the World space week (October 4-10) and the friendship day (July 30th) are rendez-vous for which participation is strong. European schools are also mobilizing to coordinate measures for "no noon shadow days" which concern schools in the intertropical zone.

    Coordination of the measures

Teachers are in constant contact to coordinate action at other events (Bibliotheca Alexandrina ) It is rare for a measure posted in real time on social networks to remain orphaned. Teachers are mobilized to ensure another measure and allow a collaborative calculation on social network group .

    1: before any measurement
    Experimental preparation of the measure
Organization of measures over several days (equinox or solstice Strategies)

Students are organized in international teams: Task forces

    2 during the measurement
    Determination of the solar noon
Measures of the height of the gnomon, and the length of the shadow,
    Photographies and videos

    3 ° after measurement
    Instant communication through social networks
    Pooling of internet documents :
Publication of the results of measurements on a shared google spreadsheet of the month in "School data" .
Publication of the photos  in your school photo gallery of the TwinSpace and in your google "School gallery 2020"

    4. before the videoconference
Verification of results, estimation of measurement quality from ephemeris
Looking for the best partnership in a shared spreadsheet in Google drive
Choice of the partner school which will lead to the nearest calculation 40000km.
Drawing the geometrical figure of the measurement, followed by calculation of the circumference of the Earth using a Geogebra model.
Preparation of the videoconference with the slides (country-city-school-student-made) and intervention (of) student presenters
Communication of the results during a videoconference.
    Publication of the video conferencing
