letter to mathematician

  • One idea from the Greek-Team is to write a letter to a famous mathematician.

Students from all the participating schools, wrote their letters to famous mathematicians on a google shared doc. During the 3rd meeting they corrected and completed their work. At the end  we created and published  an ebook containing all the letters, with the use of issuu.com. You can follow the process of cooperation here.

That was the message on facebook to the students

EFI FILIPPAKI: During the meeting in Kisamos-Greece all students have to carry out an activity. What is this??
All of you have to write a letter to a famous Mathematician from the past or the present.
On the spreadsheet I have formed teams of 3 or 4 students from different schools and each team has to work collaboratively to write that letter. As we are the host school, the Greek student of each team will be responsible of his team.
I am going to open 12 google drive documents where all of you can write your letter collaboratively. Firstly you have to read the biographies of the mathematicians to whom you will adress your letter.
I believe it is better to finish your letters before our meeting.

I propose to send your message to the most Known Mathematicians. Among them there are 2 women. Hypatia and Maryam Mirzakhani who was the first woman awarded the Field prize in 2014

We are excited about the letters and we will publish them here.

    the work.....

Our students started writing the letters during the summer 2016. They mainly worked collaboratively and they used the google documents.

All letters were finished in September 2016 when the 3rd meeting was held in Greece. We collected all of them and we created an ebook for a better reading
