Turkish Mobility

  • Mobility to Turkey was taking place in Istanbul 20 - 28 October 2020.

As the term of mobility approached, tensions on the Turkey-Syria border intensified and a number of partners expressed fears of bringing students to mobility. We have all consulted our national agencies, some also the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. Greece announced that it had been decided at school level that no one would participate in the mobility on their part. Italy very quickly reported that they, in agreement with their national agency, were arriving without students and only teachers were present at the mobility. An additional problem was the quake that shook Istanbul shortly before the mobility, and the partners felt even more uneasy, but the Turkish partner made an effort to develop a sense of security. The host school had a problem because the school was significantly damaged in the earthquake and they were forced to move most of the activities to a nearby primary school, which caused a number of technical problems because the primary school does not have enough digital support for the activities we planned. But in the end, the planned activities were carried out properly, a report was prepared and distributed among all coordinators, and the main coordinator conveyed all the conclusions and further work plan to the Greek partner. The results were also shared on dissemination platforms, allowing the Greek and Italian partners to get involved in the work and further introduce the project to their students, their parents and teachers who were not present at the mobility.

The students presented our schools, cities, counties and countries, and then the roots of literature, on which further activities of the project will be based. They also started editing a blog where they would recommend books to other students during the project that impressed them and thought they were worth reading. A total of 35 students and 12 teachers physically participated in the first mobility, and other followed the work on Twinspace, creating the blended mobility.
In addition to a number of activities, such as participating in literature classes, making book covers and a drama workshop, participants had the opportunity to tour Istanbul. During the tour, the hosts paid special attention to the presentation of the rich cultural heritage of the area, which has been the crossroads of religions and cultures for thousands of years, and the participants recognized scenes from numerous books and screenplays.

Many activities were realted to legend of

very important to Turkish cultural heritage. Teachers prepared pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading activities based on that legend, and all students had to read it prior to the mobility.
