Video - Introducing the BVA-Gymnasium
Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium Dormagen, a secondary school, was founded in 1961 and is currently composed of 69 teachers, several trainee teachers and 807 students, who attend it from the 5th grade (9-10 years old) until the final school-leaving exam Abitur. There are three levels: the Erprobungsstufe (5-6 th grades), the Mittelstufe (7-9th grades) and the Oberstufe (10-12th grades). The foreign languages learned include English (which is compulsory for all the students), French, Latin and Spanish.
Unpaid stuff includes the support association "Friends of BvA", which allows an active co-operation between teachers, parents and all the interested parties. The organisation is going to take care of the bank account for this project if it is granted. Two years ago, BVA Gymnasium (Secondary School) became a Fair-Trade-School. This valuable experience will be used during the project: specifically, the survey experience will be used, but this time for the project focus topic. The latest school conferences that worked at the school profile description included sustainability. However, this showed that the school still needed more projects on this topic and especially the experience of other schools. BVA is constantly focused on the improvement of the teachers' professional skills: advanced training seminars on promoting the modern digital means skills in teaching, will be employed during the planned project. The school and extra-curricular clubs and activities like Media Scouts, School Garden, Fair Trade and the Europe Course (Year 11) are cooperating with the Erasmus Club during the project.
