Liepaja State Gymnasium No1 is the only gymnasium in Liepaja. Its foundation was built in 1910, and the Art Nouveau building was finished in 1912, when it began its work as a gymnasium for Russian girls. Only in 1919 the school introduced a class who were taught in Latvian, which is why we celebrate our hundred-year anniversary this current school year. The school holds about 700 students from 7th to 12th grade. The students here can choose their 10th-12th grade base of education, e.g., Math-Physics, Math-Languages, Biology-Chemistry.

The school’s reconstruction was finished in 2014, mainly preserving the structure, but adding many technological essentials, some of which you may see during your visit. Our school has received a couple of awards for its look, but that’s not all we have – we also have had (and still have) many great students, who’ve excelled in many different areas of life, e.g., famous Latvian musicians, scientists, writers, and Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis also studied here for a while!

All in all, it’s a good-looking school with even better people inside of it, and we hope you really enjoy your stay here.
