The Battle of Britain

  • We have been learning about the Battle of Britain throughout this project.

First, we thought about what we already knew, and what we wanted to find out:

During our project, we have researched the events around the Battle of Britain and found out about the different nationalities of the pilots who were involved in this battle.  British and Polish pilots, as well as pilots from other countries, took part and this is the reason that schools in England and Poland are taking part in this project.

Alongside this research, we have been reading the book and watching the film of Goodnight Mr Tom, which is set at the time of the Battle of Britain and shows what everyday life was like at the time, particularly for children who had been evacuated from London.

Children at Eastburn School worked on the research in our comprehension time, once a week.  Resources were shared and the Polish students also used the resources, both to learn about the history of the period, and also to improve their English comprehension.

Each resource has a picture and a set of questions for the students to work on at their own pace.  A third page provides extension questions.
