    TRADITIONAL COSTUMES

Long ago the traditional Dutch costume was quite common, now it is only to be seen in places like Volendam, Marken and Spakenburg. And it's mainly people from over 60 still wearing it.

Kai, Alessia, Hidde and Ms Taryn made these crayon and watercolour paintings on the traditional Dutch costumes and the wooden shoes to complement them!

    PLACES

    San Palmerio Square

The beautiful medieval facade of this church has three blind arches, and reminds a Pisan-style church for the way the different colours match. The red, white and black colour of the local trachyte produces a pleasant rustic effect .

Aragonese Tower and San Palmerio Church

The tower, which was used as a prison, is an interesting example of Catalan Military Gothic architecture. This imposing tower dates from the fifteenth century and is divided into three floors which have been completely restored and are used as a cultural centre.

    Traditional costumes and dance

Sardinian traditional clothes are worn during folk festivals and major religious holidays, like that of a Cagliari Sant'Efisio or Sardinian Cavalcade of Sassari, but you can admire important collections of traditional dress in the ethnographic museums of Sardinia.

The costumes are particularly elaborate Sardinian and colorful: brightly colored and those of women, more stringent than men.

    MONUMENT

The ‘nuraghi’ represent Sardinia’s greatest – and most mysterious -  archeological treasure: 8,000 ancient megalithic buildings found nowhere else in the world.
