d) Assessment results

  • Students' Assessment

50 students answered our assessment sheet. These were the results we obtained:

    1) An interesting project

From 0 (A boring project) to 10 (A very interesting one), most students ranked it over 7, being the average mark between 6 and 7. Two students ranked it 10 over 10, while nobody ranked it 0

About the reasons mentioned by the students to say it was interesting, many only ranked it, but the others mentioned that it was funny, interesting (one said even "amazing" and another was surprised because it  had engaged that person "outside school"), good, and they had improved/learned new things. Many also mentioned comunicating/making new friends as other positive aspects. Some admitted it was hard but good, long but great or comlicated but interesting.

Those who liked it less found it hard at times, not interesting enough, or wanted more videoconferences as the most relevant reasons. A few expected too much as the reason for not being completely happy with the project.

    2) A project where they have learnt

More than half of students scored values above average when asked if they had learned about SCIENCE, ENGLISH and CULTURE. Some also mentioned SPORTS, ICT and TECHNOLOGIES, but to a smaller extent.

    3) Stengths and weaknesses of the project

The aspects which were most mentioned as the best were communication/interaction with other schools, the scape game and the riddles. The weakest point for some was the length or the difficulty, and they expected more videoconferences.

    4) Most and less valued parts of the project

The most valued activities were in this order presentation and making groups, christmas videoconferences, discovering the schools and playing the final game.

The least appreciated ones were preparing the riddles and designing the logos.

    5) A project where international communication was easy

    6) Something new for everybody

    7) Probably something to be repeated

    8) Students also suggested...

Not many students answered this questions. These are the most relevant answers. Two said it was already perfect, impossible to add anything. Some asked for more communication, more speaking or more collaboration with other high schools. A few asked to devote more class hours to the activity. One asked to receive answers from others more quickly and another wanted to travel to the other schools.

    Teacher's Assessment

4 teachers answered our assessment sheet. These were the results we obtained:

    1) Teachers appreciated this project

As an average, teachers ranked it 8 over 10. Teachers also considered it a good project, with another 8 over 10.

    2) Communication was easy. Edmodo helped.

Everybody says communication was easy and that Edmodo helped. Everybody was willing to participate and Edmodo was really full of messages, but without forgetting the difficulties: different school periods and lack of experience in escape games among them.

    3) An improvement for teaching skills

As an average, teachers ranked it 3 over 5. Knowledge of new resources, exploring ways of motivating students and increase of creativity were mentioned here.

    4) Goals were reached

Goals were reasonably reached, although they are never 100%. We mentioned lack of time as a problem, and lack of implication in some of our students. We would have liked a greater collaboration among them, but the project brought extra motivation in English and students are looking forward to a new project next year.

    5) Not the first project...and probably not the last one!

    6) Teachers also suggested...

Teachers are conscious there is always way ahead to improve. Control of times, clearer idea on how to conduct the project, an increase in interaction and greater use of forums were some of the aspects highlighted here.
