OUR MEETINGS

  • During the 1st Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) in Latvia (November 28 - 30, 2017) we presented our schools and ourselves, discussed on the project logo and evaluation methods, established a detailed plan of activities and distributed tasks to the teachers involved. We “broke the ice”!

The 1st Short Term Exchange of Group of Pupils took place in Paredes de Coura, Portugal from February 26 until March 2, 2018 and was dedicated to "Water sports" as well as "local history". Students from six different European countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Turkey) had altogether the great chance for a common practice on water sports: swimming and surfing. They got familiar with the rules, techniques and "secrets" of these sports. Teachers of physical education taught them. Croatian, Greek, Italian, Latvian, Portuguese and Turkish students had the opportunity to create mixed sport teams and establish friendships as well as exchange experiences and ideas.

The 2nd Short Term Exchange of Group of Pupils took place in Lecce, Italy (April 16 - 20, 2018) and was dedicated to the chemistry of water. Students from six European countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Turkey) learnt how to measure chemical parameters of the water in the field and school laboratory, for example acidity, conductivity, salinity, hardness, temperature, dissolved oxygen, anions and cations. They got familiar with laboratory organs and methods. In addition they realized why these measurements are necessary. Water bodies are affected by a variety of factors. Pollution is a serious problem for many aquatic ecosystems possibly with serious impact to the human health. Students focused on chemical parameters that are useful and reliable markers of water pollution. Our students worked in common groups, created friendships as well as exchanged experiences and ideas.

The 3rd Short Term Exchange of Group of Pupils took place in Argostoli Kefalonia from September 24 until September 28, 2018 and was dedicted to "Biodiversity and applications of mathematics on the aquatic ecosystems". Students from six different European countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Turkey) studied flora and fauna of certain aquatic ecosystems as well as informed for endangered species e.g. the loggerhead turtle Caretta caretta. They got familiar with the anatomy, symmetry, physiology, reproduction and ethology of certain aquatic organisms. On the other hand, we must not forget that each ecosystem consists of biotic as well as abiotic parameters. Therefore we gave the great chance to our students to get familiar with applications of mathematics on the historical De Bosset bridge in Argostoli, the largest stone bridge in Europe. Finally, students focused on the questions “What should we do so as to protect endangered aquatic species?” and "How can we take advantage of an aquatic ecosystem aiming at sustainability?". Our students worked in common groups, exchanged experiences and ideas as well as made common proposals.

The 4th short term exchange of group of pupils took place in Metkovic, Croatia from April 1 till April 5, 2019. It was dedicated to "Αrt and crafts and cooking: the cultural dimension of aquatic ecosystems!" Aquatic ecosystems are part of our culture and everyday life. Students from six European countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Turkey) with different culture had the great opportunity to a) learn secrets and techniques of the arts of painting and cooking, b) depict aquatic ecosystems with the art of painting and display paintings, c) learn and execute traditional recipes from Mediteranean and Baltic sea as well as Atlantic ocean, and d) prepare and display traditional dishes. Two workshops were organised dedicated to arts and crafts and traditional sea recipies. Finally, our students tried to answer the question "How different are we?”. Our students worked in common groups; created friendships as well as exchanged experiences and ideas.

During the last TPM in Akhisar, Turkey (April 13 - 17, 2019) we made the final evaluation of our project and discussed the final report. Furthermore we presented two ebooks concerning traditional sea recipies and flora and fauna of six European aquatic ecosystems. These books are two of the final project products.
