Croatia is not a country very attractive to immigrants. It rarely happens that some of them want to stay in our country. Croatia has a big problem with its people leaving the country, especially the younger population. It is probably the reason why we haven’t found any songs about immigrants and their problems in Croatian music, but we have found songs about Croatians leaving their country.

According to assessments, Croatian diaspora in the world extends to over two and a half millions of people. More than millions of Croats and their descendants live in the USA and Canada.  Around 400 000 Croats live in South America and most of them in Argentina and Chile. Diaspora in Australia includes about 250 000 and on New Zealand about 40 000 people. In Western Europe, the most of Croats live in Germany (around 350 000), then Austria (90 000), Switzerland (80 000), Italy (60 000), France (40 000), and in Sweden (35 000).

The longest living Nobel Prize winner, Rita Levi Montalcini (1909-2012), fantasized that will help lepers in Africa as a doctor, but that dream never came true. Although he composed music for opera and ballet, the Italian composer Nino Rota (full name Giovanni Rota Rinaldi, 1911-1979) is mostly remembered for his film music.
