Learning/Teaching/Training Activities in Croatia

  • Between the 26th May and 1st June 2019, the fourth training visit within the Erasmus+ project took place in Croatia. Osnovna skola “Antun Gustav Matos” Vinkovci hosted pupils and teachers from partner schools in the project. In accordance with the project's rules, the children stayed with the host families. The Croatian families gave our students a very warm welcome and were very hospitable.
During our visit to Croatia, both the students and the teachers participated in various workshops and training sessions, mainly language and IT classes, however there were some sports, arts, science and history activities as well. Competitions, performances, exhibitions and presentations also took place during our stay in Croatia. We learnt a little about the history of the region, its traditions and culture. We went sightseeing in Vinkovci and visited the nearby towns of Vukovar, Ilock and Osijek as well. We found out a lot about the oldest settlement in Europe, we also learnt about the dramatic events that happened there in 1991-1995 during the Serbian–Croatian war. We took part in a cruise on the Bosut river during which we had the chance to see numerous species of birds. We were also invited to the meeting with the local authorities in the Town Hall. We took part in the festival at the beginning of the Roman Days – a holiday commemorating the Roman period in the history of Vinkovci.
The week long stay in Croatia was an unforgettable experience for both the students and the teachers. It was an opportunity to see a lot of interesting places and to meet great people. We hope for further cooperation and participation in similar projects.
