    Sunday 14. 1. 2018

    12.30 Arrival of the Polish group at Fiumicino Airport.  Teachers and students are received by the Italian correspondents teachers and student’s families . Accommodation at the Hotel in Rome  for the teachers. Students are accompanied by welcoming families at their homes to have lunch. 

    Free afternoon 

     

    Monday 15.1.  2018: 

    8.05 Arrival of the Lithuanian  group at the Airport. Teacher and students are received by  the Italian  correspondents teachers and student’s families . All the group is expected to arrive at school at about 9 o’clock.

    The Polish teachers will reach the school by train and expected to be there at 8.15

    The students willl reach the school with their correspondents.

    They will stay in  the classroom together and attend the first hour of lesson.

     

    9.10 : welcome meeting with Headmistress Mrs Maria Antonietta Maucioni  for all the visiting students and their teachers. Walk around the School.  

     

    10. lesson observation both for students and teachers.

     

    11.. Coffee break .

     

    11.15 Chemistry lab: 

    Activity 1: effects of environmental pollution: the effects of acid rains and decarbonation of monuments. 

    In this activity students will perform simple laboratory tests in order to check how the addition of CO2 and SO2, produced by combustion to the rainwater, causes acidification (acid rains)  and as such  "acid rain" has an altering action on the monuments of ancient Rome. Brief intruduction to pH and to the characteristics of acids and bases through the use of pH indicators of vegetable origin .The activity takes about 2 hours of laboratory time.

    At the end of the activities the students will return to their classes for the last hour of lessons.

    13. End of lessons. The students come back home with their correspondents. Lunch with the families and free afternoon. Dinner with the families.

     

    Evening dinner in Trastevere with the colleagues for the teachers.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Tuesday 16 .1. 2018

    A stroll around Rome

     

    8.30 Meeting for students and teachers at the Maccarese train station (near the school). 

    Arrival at San Pietro station at 9 o’clock.

    Visit of the Basilica of St. Peter. Continuing on Piazza Navona, Fontana del Bernini and  ckeck the effect of the alteration of monuments from acid rain action. Lunch Break (packed lunch provided by the families) . Largo Arenula, Altare della Patria and via dei Fori Imperiali. Trajan's Column. Colosseum and Arch of Constantine. 

    18.00 expected return to the Maccarese station.  Students go home with their correspondents.  Dinner at home.

     

    Free evening 

     

     

    Wednesday 17. 1. 2018

     

    8.15  the students involved and their teachers go to the chemistry laboratory for the second planned activity.

    “We are whath we eat” : The use of chemicals to identify biomolecules contained in foods: Lugol's essays and Benedict test  for carbohydrates;  Biuret  test  on proteins;  red Sudan test for lipids. DNA extraction from plant cells. 

     

    11 coffee break 

     

    11.15 Student’s activity “Murder and a meal”. 

     

    The students, having experienced the use of chemicals to determine the various biomolecules found in foods, apply  these techniques  to become science police officers and perform a crime scene investigation .  

     

    13 At the end of the activity students go to class for the last hour of lesson. Then they go home with their correspondents. Lunch and dinner with families.

     

    Evening dinner in Trastevere with the colleagues for the teachers.

     

     

    Thursday 18. 1. 2018. 

    Meeeting at school at 8.00 and departure to Cerveteri with the bus.

     

    9-12 Visit the Etruscan Necropolis of Cerveteri. Packed lunch (provided by the families)

     

    13.30 -15.30 Laboratory activities (Casale Maremma, 2 km from the necropolis). The students involved will experience a true Etruscan fresco with the use of mineral pigments. They will learn how to use them and what techniques the  Etruscans themselves used  to fix the colours on the basis of the fresco. The lecture will be held in English. It will cost 12 euros including materials. 

     

    Arrival at school at 17.

    Friday 19. 1. 2018 

    8.30- 12.30  Meeting at school at 8.00 . Bus to visit  local farms (cattles, biological growing vegetables, greenhouses)

     

    13.00  Meeting with the Headmistress and staff. Farewell time for students and staff. 

     

    Students come home for lunch with the families

     

    Teachers have lunch with Headmistress and staff  at a typical restaurant near school. 

     

     Afternoon with colleagues at Rome

     

    Saturday 20.1. 2018

    Polish group:

    Arrival at the airport at 8.30 

    Polish Students wil reach the airport with the families and their correspondents

    Polish Teachers will reach the airport by train from Trastevere Station. Farewell time.

     

    Lithuanian group:

    Arrival at the airport at 14.00 

    Lithuanian Students wil reach the airport with the families and their correspondents

    Lithuanian teachers will reach the airport by train from Trastevere Station. Farewell time.
