Italian children and their school, A LITTLE CONVERSATION

On June, 4th , we had a little conversation about our school: me and my colleague, Virna, started talking about numbers, times, etc. and children said their point of view.

Barbara: At Arcobaleno school of Bagnacavallo there are ten sections of about 28 children each.
The classrooms, as you can see from the map, are large enough
Patrizia:  we have three winter gardens, a well-equipped gym
Manuel: three common salons to play or organize shows, a reading room and a technological corner (there is a lime, some pc, Tablets, and Cubetto's cabin)
Alessandr C. : there is even and a large dormitory for all three-year-old children. We used it, last year.
    Virna: You know,  opening hours are from 8.30 to 16.30;
Francesca: But I stay at school longer than this.....unfortunately.....
Virna, yes, because if some families need longer times there is a paying service managed by the Municipality of Bagnacavallo which welcomes and follows the children from 7.40 to 8.30 and from 16,30 at 18.00.
Emanuel: but I like to go at "prescuola" or "postscuola" because I can see my other frineds of other class

Barbara:School activities begin on September 15th and end on 30th June. We have about 15 days of Christmas holidays and a week at Easter, plus a few days for bank holidays like April 25 ( Liberation Day), May 1st (Labor Day), June 2nd (Republic Day).

Lorenzo: I come here even in July......
Virna: infact during summer there are paid summer services that take place in the school but not with  statal teachers, not with me and Barbara.

Virna: at school we have fruit at nine o'clock in the morning (and we realized that children prefer it this time, rather than after lunch) in our square (a rectangle made up of drawers with seat).
Anita: then we complete the calendar, we choose the waiters, the leader and teacher’s assistant, we count, sing, read a story, we talk a little and after fruit time.
Alice: I like these moments, because we talk about fruit in English

Barbara: at 10.00 we begin some organised activity  and at 11.30 we go to play in the garden or stay in the classroom. We have several corners where to play: a soft corner with pillows and peluches for reading, space for the driveway, and the construction, the corner of the tinkering  (do you know what  “tinkering”is?), the drawing board and the painting area, the puzzle and memory chest.

Zoe: I prefer  the area “Dolls and kitchen”
Mirko e Gabriele: We like  mobile trolley for old clothes to play with. We also like  playing with the material we find on the recycling shelves: cropped pictures, buttons, laces, fake flowers, hinges, cloth pieces, glue etc.
Manuel: I like play in the garden.

Barbara: At 12 o'clock we get prepared for lunch: it is cooked elsewhere, then our cook Natascia finishes to prepare it and her collaborators bring us in section with a trolley. Children who have been appointed waiters serve meals to friends and bring the carafe on the table.  At the end of the meal, each child clear, take away  dishes, glasses, spoon and fork,  removes the napkin and waits in the square. When everyone has finished we go to the garden or in the common salons to play with the children of the other classes. At  14, 30 o’clock  we go back to class, and do some light activity, listening to music or chatting.

Bledara: but on the orange day,  (Thursday ) in the afternoon Valentina comes, our English teacher, on the pink day (Tuesday) in the afternoon Mattia comes, the teacher of motor training, and less often Andrea comes, a musician, to let us try the instruments and to make us sing. With all of them we prepare the school year-end performances and our parents come to see us.
Evelyn, Matteo, Federico and Lucia: The end of the year-end party is really great!

There is also time for Catholic religion for those who want to enjoy it. Families who are not interested know that their children will go with their teacher  to do other activities in the multifunctional hall or in the garden.
Lucia c: We like our school so much and when it's time to go to primary school, ( and it happens in the September of the year we blew six candles in the cake), we always do not mind leaving this place so cheerful, free and colorful.

ITALY, FROM THE SPACE TO OUR CLASS IN BAGNACAVALLO

    Creato con Padlet

This is a little work children did with LIM ( it's the first year we have one at school) : it's a simple padlet where they tried to describe the jpurney from the infinite space to their class.
    Hope you enjoy it.

    IN FRANCE :

At Maternelle Capsus, we used google earth to look at our school from above and to find the different parts of our school :

(formerly known as St. Anne school)

To look at the school maps, we also used google earth.  The children could very easily identify areas of interest to them such as their playing area or the Pick up point for parents.  They were even interested in the difference between the 3d view and the normal view of the school layout.

    Here is what they saw:

We even managed to get our hands of a school plan of our floor.  We then took our map and went to places we had already pointed out beforehand such as our school hall and our friend, Ms Christine's class  :)

And here is what we see on a walk around the school ....
