The Legend of the white Lady
The white Lady
A young widowed Countess of Orlamünde had fallen in love with the viscount Albrecht. He was actually interested in marrying her, but there was one problem. Albrecht told her that there are “four eyes too much”. The Countess thought, he had been talking about her children and so she planned to kill them. There are some legends about the way she killed her kids, for example by putting some pins in their head. But this crime didn't pay off for her because the viscount was shocked about what she had done, so he sent her away and she started to regret it. To pay off her guilt she went to the pope and promised him to found a monastery.
Nowadays her tombstone shows an image of her with the sword, that should have killed her for her crimes, beside her. So the legend says the countess is still walking around her own grave and the famous “cold tree” which is called like that because there is always a cold wind blowing around. The tale goes further that she won't find peace until a German emperor declares war to Turkey and the blood rises up on the battleground till it touches the lower branches of the tree.

The Legend of Potatoes!! from etwinning on Vimeo.
About the flourishing agricultural vocation of this land exists the beautiful legend of the devil and the potatoes.
Enemy of the good and serenity, one day the devil found himself in this land, and seeing how the villagers lived serenely, kissed by the sun, surrounded by prosperous cereal crops, he felt great envy and the desire to destroy all that harmony and that well-being.
Ha began to rain down continuously, then he unleashed furious hailstorms, an finally he sparked tremendous storms.
The countrymen were desperate. They tried with exorcisms, prayers, propitiating roods to ram into the fields. Everything was vain, until a foreigner, who knew all about it, came there and took care of the matter.
"We need to take the devil from his weakness!" He said. "You know, the devil wants to make deals with people to become owner of their souls and we have to fight him using this aspect of his evilness." On hearing these words, the devil came out and screamed: "How do you dare to challenge me?"
“I wish you stop harassing these people, and i propose you a deal! Of you leave us in peace, we'll give you all that grows on these lands, and we'll keep what grows under them.” The devil agreed and he disappeared. So the foreigner took out a bag of seeds from his pocket and gave it to the villagers urging them to sow and wait with confidence the growth and the maturation of the plants.
Plenty of mysterious seedlings came up from the sowing . They were vigourous and full of leaves but they had no fruits. In the moment in which they had to be picked the devil arrived like a bolt from the blue. He protested about the lack of fruits and the bitter leaflets.
“You didn’t work for me but you will have just very bitter roots as well. You will die of starvation and you will have an atrocious stomachache!” he added rancorous.
Suddenly the foreigner replied: “Devil, you'll regret the choice you made that day for eternity!”
With angry and flaming eyes the Demon started to dig in the earth with a spade, and some big and strange bulbs came out from the ground: potatoes.
The furious Devil ran away, leaving there only his terrible sulfur smell, and nobody ever saw him again. In the end, people found peace and prosperity due to the potatoes production.

Maibaumaufstellen
The historical origin Maypole(„Maibaum aufstellen“)
The origin of the maypole is far behind and is not clearly explained. It is clear that already in the May night lined up early Vikings called "Thor tree". This was a wooden pole , decorated with colorful flowers. This tree stood for strength and growth. After the Vikings was a maypole as a kind of freedom stake . To set the French after the Revolution from 1790 colorfully decorated trees in the Bastille . Here the Maypole origin is therefore of militant and freedom-loving nature. These Maibäume are not comparable with today's colorfully decorated maypole . It was not until the 18th century, parallels can be manufactured to our cult post. The origin of today's maypole comes from Bavaria. The Minister Maximilian of Montgelas set up a maypole for the first time that should symbolize the independence of the Bavarian State.
A maypole is a decorated tree or tree trunk that is usually put up in the night of the 30th april. Especially in
Baden - Württemberg , Bavaria and Austria. It's normal to put the maypole on the village square.
