  • HOW WE WORKED THE STORY

    Group: 5 years A ( Teacher: Comba)

This time we worked the tale “The rainbow fish”.  A beautiful tale to work the value of generosity and friendship and  how sharing things brings happiness to ourselves . The story telling took place at the carpet zone. As some of the pupils knew the story already, it wasn’t difficult for them to predict some information about the story using some images . We read the story and we did some stops in the reading to talk about things we thought should be shared to make happier our friends, what would they do if they were the Rainbow fish, would they share their scales? And what if they were the Rainbow fish’s friends? How would they feel?  All these questions made them think about the importance of friendship and generosity.

After this, we saw the animated story on the whiteboard and sang some songs about fish and counting. They really liked it.

Table time arrived and beautiful, glittery scales were made by the children and were shared with our European colleagues by scanning and sending them via twinspace in order to make some fish with the shared scales. These fish were designed  in groups. Children were excited at the idea of having the scales made by our European friends!

    Group: 5 years B ( Teacher: Gema)

First, we started talking about the book and its cover... What our expectations were and what we expected the story to be... Some of the students already knew about it in their mother tongue, so all together came up with ideas about the main character and its adventures in the book. We also talked about the values implied in the book: friendship, sharing, giving things to others and the most important one in the story: generosity.

Then, the teacher told us the story on the carpet ( story time) and we all were amazed of the beauty of the book and the Rainbow fish... it was so beautiful! Finally, all of us wanted to touch it! Finally we also learnt the moral in the story: we can feel happier when we share with others, seeing others happy can really make us feel happier than before!

After that, we watched the story on the whiteboard... We liked it so much! Here is the link to Photopeach with photos about the video story:

After the story, we learnt some vocabulary related to fish: fins, body, scales... And we started colouring some scales and decorating them with glitter in order to share them with our European friends to finally create new rainbow fish made by ourselves, it sounded so great!

We also did other activities about fish as for example: colouring a rainbow fish relating numbers and colours, watching video songs about fish, etc. Here there is a link to photos about what we did:
