  • HOW WE WORKED ON "GO AWAY, BIG GREEN MONSTER!"

In our school 5 years-old students have two sessions of english a week. One session is only with half group and the other with the whole class. I thought it was interesting to start to work on the story with half group first and after I did reinforcement activities with the whole group.

    ACTIVITIES WITH HALF GROUP

Fist of all, we talked about what fear is and what things scare us. We discovered that we were scared of spiders, witches, ghosts, monsters and so on. WE ALL AGREED MONSTERS WERE REALLY SCARY!!

Then, teacher told us she was going to explain us a story that helped kids not to be scared of monster or another scary things.

She showed us a book that we all really loved! We found it so beautiful and funny!

Once we finished to read the story, the teacher showed us a big green monster which she had hidden. We all helped her to repeat the story using all the words we know about the parts of the face and colors, and, obviously, we screamed really high: GO AWAY!!, in order to help teacher to make the monster disappear. But the teacher had a big suprise for us! She had not only one but three big green monster which we could play with! She proposed us a game. She played to be a storyteller and we had to create the story using the monster. She had flashcard that helped us a lot to follow her!

After, teacher let us play with the scary monsters and we could read the book by ourselves!

    ACTIVITIES WITH ALL THE GROUP

First, we listen to the song: GO AWAY SCARY MONSTER!! We danced and sang it together. Finally, teacher proposed us to create our big green monster masks for halloween. We colour and cut them out! At the end, teacher glued a little wood stick on our masks and we were able to scare everybody on halloween's day!
