                                                       REPORT

    of short-term exchanges of group of pupils activity “Summer Camp” (C2)

     

    Date: 19/08 – 23/08

    Host partner: Jelgava Local Municipality Stalgene Secondary school, Latvia

    Partners:

    Palade Basic School, Estonia

    OOU “Lazo Angelovski”, North Macedonia

    Liceul Technologic Topoloveni, Romania

     

    Total number of participants: 19 pupils and 5 accompanying teachers 

     

    Before mobility students filled survey about their previous experience and expectations. For 6 of participants this mobility was first experience abroad. All of participants come to Summer Camp to get new friends, most of them wanted to get to know another country and culture. 10 of participants reported they know about Latvia only few things, but 4 pupils told that they don’t know almost nothing about Latvia before mobility.

    1st day 19/08

    Summer Camp started with Nonformal introducing and ice-breaking activities where each participant introduce with themselves. Also participants prepare 4 different “Summer Camp” activity LOGOs. 

    Tour in the Stalgene school, surrounding, local history and youth activity cenre was leaded by Stalgene student’s.

    Training activity “What is Slow Life lifestyle?” Setting the goal for Summer Camp. Establishing of working groups for project-based research work. Also introduction with framework of each project-based group work.

    The following activity of 1st day was Official dinner – opening of Summer Camp with official speeches. During official dinner opening speech by Stalgene school director Aivars Naglis, Palade school director Antti Leigri and partner school teachers. Introducing with Latvian traditional food, dances and social games.


    2nd day 20/08

    Project based research works in working groups. The topics for research works are following: slow food (leaded by  Ilga Gedrovica, Docent, Leading Researcher of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Faculty of Food technologies), healthy physical activities (leaded by Edīte Čakša, Sport teacher at Stalgene Secondary school, Athletic coach at Jelgava Local Municipality sport centre, Mother of participant of Olympic Games), respectful communication ( leaded by Agnese Šakauska –English teacher, practitioner of theatre art, folk dancing), stress management (leaded by  Baiba Blomniece - Jurāne – Clinical psychologist, Owner of private kindergarten in Jelgava, Creator of development method Barboleta). Students made research work by leading of expert from Stalgene school and accompanying teacher.

    Time schedule for research work:

    20/08 10.00 – 12.00 practical work and discussion on chosen topic

    21/08 10.00 – 12.00 practical work and discussion on chosen topic

    22/08 10.00 – 11.00 presentation preparation (Poster, performance, etc.)

    23/08 11.00 – 12.00 presentation about research work (about 10 -15 minutes for each group)

    Presentation framework:

    • Topic

    • The aim of practical work – what you wanted to find out

    • Main activities – what did you do 

    • Main conclusions – what new did you learn/ understand/ try

    • Suggestions, recommendations for peers

    After lunch Excursion to Old Riga was organized with guided excursion in the Old Riga (UNESCO heritage). 

    On evening all participants was introduced with Estonian delegation presentation about their school, country, traditions, habits (could be included quiz about country, tasting of traditional dishes, performance, etc.):

    Last activity at second day was Outdoor sport activity - night orienteering in Stalgene school surrounding. There was involved local community also.

     

     

    3rd day, 21/08

     

    Morning started with continuing work on research work. 

    After Lunch students participated in sport activities while teachers participated in project Coordinator’s meeting. Coordinator from North Macedonia participated online.

    4th day, 22/08

    Each working group presented their research work was prepared in previous days. 

    Excursion to Baltic Sea beach and swamp (Kemeri National park). To get to know Baltic Sea and swamp ecosystem, nature – students filled worksheets:

    5th day, 23/08

     

    Evaluation of Summer camp by students, distribution of Certificates. 

    Evaluation was made on following issues:

    1. Free time, sport activities, non-formal activities

    2. Catering, accommodation

    3. Project – based work in groups

    4. Excursions to Riga, Kemeri

    5. National evenings – presentations about partner schools

    Excursion to Jelgava and guided tour in the center of Jelgava. Participants attended Jelgava palace, Pasta island, Lielupe Floodplain meadows.
