Specific Social Context
At the moment we have students of more than 40 different nationalities studying at our school. We got awarded as "School without racism" (Schule ohne Rassismus) in 2014 and in that context we frequently organise projects.
Our school is located in Arnsberg, in the north-east of the Sauerland in the Ruhr river valley. The town is nearly completely encircled by forest, and in the north there is the natural park "Arnsberger Wald". The river Ruhr also shapes Arnsberg’s appearance.
Arnsberg was built in the 11th century. The counts of Werl built a castle there whose remains can still be visited and are occasionally used for public celebrations. It was completely destroyed in the Seven Years' War in 1769.
The current city of Arnsberg was created in 1975 by merging 14 cities and municipalities into one city.
Roman heritage
Arnsberg is close to different places that offer an interesting Roman heritage, among them Cologne, Xanten, Haltern and Teutoburg Forrest. In the project we would like to focus on handicraft.
