    Chocolate Cake

    Ingredients:

    For the cake:

    - 180g plain flour (6 oz)

    - 30g cocoa powder (1 oz)

    - 150g of sugar (5 oz)

    - a pinch of salt

    - 16g of baking powder (0.6 oz)

    - 1 tsp of vanilla extract

    - 250ml of water (8 fl oz ) (0.4 pt)

    - 80ml of vegetable oil (3 fl oz)

    For the chocolate icing:

    - 200g plain chocolate (7 oz)

    - 100ml of cream (3 fl oz)

     

    1) Preheat the oven to 180°c/350°f

    2) Put all ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Using a wooden spoon beat the mixture until smooth and well mixed.

    3) Bake the cake ( 35 minutes )

    4) Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool

    5) Meanwhile for the chocolate icing: heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until smooth, glossy and thickened.

    6) Run a round-bladed knife around the inside of the cake tin to loosen the cake. Carefully remove the cake from the tin

    7) Spread the chocolate icing over the top of the cake.
