Piazza delle Erbe, the ancient Roman forum of Verona in the exact center of the city, is a lively meeting place for locals and visitors alike, an enchanting setting to stop for an aperitif and a chat with friends.

In recent decades, large supermarkets and tourism have changed the appearance of the stalls: today only two or three stalls sell fruit and vegetables, surrounded by souvenirs of all kinds.

At the tip of the Sirmione peninsula, in a fantastic panoramic location, stand the remains of the largest and most well-preserved Roman villa in northern Italy, known as Grottoes of Catullus.

The reference to Catullus, a Latin poet from Verona who died in 54 BC, can be explained by the fact that in Carme XXXI Catullus celebrated Sirmione as a jewel among all the islands and the peninsulas of seas and lakes.
