We are a rather small primary school with about 220 pupils located in Düsseldorf-Derendorf, a socially mixed area. Thomas school was named and built in 1953. We are a bilingual school: about 50% of our students attend classes in Italian (5hrs/week) with 4 narrative Italian teachers.
Since December 2015, Thomas school is a certified “NRW Europa-Schule” (European school in North Rhine Westphalia).
As a European school, we impart knowledge about Europe and train our pupils' intercultural understanding as well as foreign language skills.
We regularly organise a Europe theme and project week and yearly take part at Düsseldorf's festival called "Europe Day". Furthermore, in 2016 and 2019 we became the regions’ champion in a pupils'-art-competition called “Begegnung mit Osteuropa”.
Lately, we took part at a KA2 ErasmusPlus-Project with schools from both France and the Netherlands. We also took participated in several EU-teacher-exchange programs (KA1) as well as further educational programs (e.g. in Sweden, Malta and Palermo).
