2017 - 2 - Week in Mureck

  • DAY 1: Sunday

What an exciting evening it was yesterday!

It was raining cats and dogs (and students) when the French, Finnish and German students arrived at the HLW-school in Mureck, Austria, but that didn´t stop us from smiling.

Around 7pm the German students arrived in Mureck and were welcomed warmly. Some minutes later the French and Finnish pupils made it to Mureck and joined the group.

Everyone was very excited about the upcoming days and their host families. Mr. Schaupp introduced the students to the host families.

After that we drove home with our host families and spent the rest of our evening with them.

    DAY 2: Monday

We arrived at the school at 8:45 and met the others students from the others countries.

We all came together and one of the German teachers, Max, told us about the program for this week, the topic and the rules.

    We made 5 groups:

    • Photo group
    • Video group
    • Reporters group (print)
    • Reporters group (online)
    • Creative group

Afterwards, the groups made their own plans about what they wanted to do.

Then, finally, we had lunch. We ate rice and meat, salad and fruit with cream.

After lunch we started to work again.

At 15:15 we met the mayor, Anton Vukan, and he explained to us what life was like in Mureck, and he told us several interesting things about the town.

Here´s a picture of our meeting with the mayor, Anton Vukan.

    DAY 3: Tuesday

We started the second day of our Erasmus-project with lots of motivation and - as we noticed soon - we needed this motivation to 100%.

Tuesday was our working day. The entire morning every group was working hard on their project.

At half past 12 we had a fantastic lunch at school, cooked and served by pupils of the HWL. We could choose between chicken with millet and vegetables with sauce and millet. Thanks to all the pupils who cooked this great lunch for us!

After the break we continued working on our different projects. The great results of the work in the morning could already be seen in the afternoon. To make the atmosphere relaxed again after the hard work, Felix Neumann, our German musician, played some songs for us in the school hall. At half past 4 we stopped working for this day and had some freetime for getting dinner.

At 6 o´clock we met again in the school for a movie night. We watched the adventures of Tintin and Mr. Schaupp made some delicious popcorn for us and we could eat as much crisps as we wanted to.

Around 10 o´clock everyone was happy to be at home with their host family and finally relax.

Here's a picture of the lunch room in the school hall.

    DAY 4: WEDNESDAY

We went to the Zotter chocolate factory and we started with tasting different flavours of chocolate (hot and cold) but also salty with mealworms and it didn't taste good, because (surprisingly) it tasted like paper.

Then, we tried the chocolate during its transformation. At the beginning it was very bitter, but later the chocolate became softer and sweeter.

Some of the more 'special' tastes we tried were fish, cannabis and cheese.

After the Zotter experience, we went to Graz and took part in a guided tour to some monuments of the city:

    • The Graz city hall
    • the Cathedral of Graz
    • the historic center of Graz
    • the 'Schneeman' (a piece of art)
    • the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II

It´s a very beautiful city and we would like to thank our guide again for all the information she gave us.

In the evening we went to SCS Seiersberg, which is a huge shopping center with many different shops (180 in total).

    Day 5: Thursday

    Time runs!

Thursday was our last day of work. We almost had the entire day to finish our individual projects in the separate groups. In the morning we worked from quarter to 9 until half past 12.

Everyone was just about to starve, that´s why we ordered lots of pizza and pasta from the pizzeria in Mureck. The whole team spent the whole lunchbreak together.

Atfer the break we continued working on the presentations that were almost finished. Later in the afternoon every single group had the chance to practice their presentations for the next day in the school hall. This day we worked until half past 4.

We spent our evening in the thermal bath in Bad Radkersburg, where we had a lot of fun together and could relax while lying on our towels.

Everyone is looking forward to tomorrow (Friday) to see the results of the other groups and what they have worked on the entire week!

In the evening we're going to have dinner with all students and teachers of the project and the host families in a kind of restaurant called `buschenschank`.
