2016 - 5 - Privacy

Everyone has a slightly different terminology of privacy.  Some don't mind having information shared with say corporate companies for statistics, medical reasearch or other use. Some are totally against it and don't want any sort of personal information gathered and given forward. I wouldn't want any of my information collected and used for two main reasons.

    1. It is private and only I have a right to that information. I should be the only one with the power to share information about myself.

    2. You have no way of knowing what information is collected and what is done with that information.

Everyone has a right to privacy.Privacy means having to right to being left alone and the freedom from interference. With technology developing at the rate it is information security is turning into an issue. In recent years privacy and security has been severly violated through smartphones and social media. There have been massive social networking and data breaches that no one knew was occuring. For example Edward Snowdenrevealed that the U.S government has listening to everyones phonecalls and surveilling them 24/7 and even hacking into devices like phones and computers.

Snapchat is one of the largest used social networks with 100 million active daily users.  There was a recent change to the terms and conditions and the privacy policy. Snapchat has three ways of gathering information from a user.

    1. Information you give to Snapchat. When creating an account a username, password and email has to be created.

    2. Information that is created when using Snapchat. This means every photo, anything you write or send to anyone, Snapchat will see it, and infact owns that information even all of your photos that have been taken outside of snapchat.

    3. Information gathered from third parties. If a friend has information about you say stored on a device, Snapchat can gather that.

I wouldn´t consider this a privacy policy. Snapchat sees everything and owns your photos. A user has no idea what is done with that information. There will never be a social network that is 100% breach-free. Privacy and security go hand in hand. A few ways to increase privacy and along with that security is to limit what you post online. Don't share anything you wouldn't be comfortable sharing with a stranger. Accept people you only know to follow or be frineds with you. Sharing personal information is risky online. You don't know who sees it and who is collecting that information and using it. Make sure to actually read the terms and conditions so you understand what you are agreeing and accepting.
