green.if.i and documenta 15: The Erasmus lettuce container
The worldwide art exhibition in Kassel proposed a connection between art, sustainability and education in Kassel.
The project green.if.i. provided a very suitable for this collaboration.
Documenta offered an urban gardening container that was related to our green.if.i. project. The container, produced in the USA by Freight Farms, is the first of its kind in Europe. In this container we eventually want to produce organic lettuce and sell it on the market with an estimated production of 20,000 to 50,000 heads of lettuce per year in the future and earnings of up to 6000,- € per month. During documenta it will be open for international visitors and it will be an official part of the doumenta 15 exhibition. Among these thousands of lettuce heads we want to offer the "Erasmus lettuce“ from the different countries in the project.
The documenta 15 officials are very enthusiastic about the Erasmus lettuce and hopefully the visitors of the art exhibition will be, too.
The general idea is to produce local organic lettuce as an example for future urban gardening, produced with very little water and with solar energy technology from Kassel, which is even new to the producer of the container. In addition, when the new school building is finished, we can also grow the Erasmus lettuce in the garden areas of our school.
