This pandemic has originated collateral damage to the oceans and other aquatic ecosystems due to increasing amount of face masks, gloves and other coronavirus waste. With our last questionnaire, we wanted our students to become aware of this major environmental problem.

Our students show their concern about the problem of pollution caused by face masks and gloves which have been thrown away, and its impact on the oceans and on living beings in aquatic ecosystems. Beside this, some of them also remark that throwing away face masks and gloves poses the risk of infecting others.

In order to contribute to make people aware of the importance of preserving the environment also during pandemic, our students suggest showing videos and pictures about the problem of pollution and its negative impact on aquatic environment, in order to begin convincing our family and friends and to make campaigns picking up trash and using social networks to spread and make those campaigns viral. As some of our students say, it is not so difficult: “only by changing a couple of habits, we can help each other.”
