When we planned these questionnaires, we wanted our students to learn some basic aspects about the illness and the virus causing it. In this crisis, our knowledge is our best ally in order to fight the pandemic and to avoid the transmission of the virus. Keeping this in mind, our students had to watch the video of activity 6 and, with that information, answer the questionnaires.
Questions 1 to 3
Comments
Most of the answers show that our students have achieved an appropriate knowledge about basic aspects of the disease and the virus causing it. First questions deals with terminology: most students know the name of the disease and its meaning (COVID-19, for “Coronavirus Disease 2019”), and can differentiate it from the name of the virus (SARS-CoV-2).
Questions 4 and 5
Comments
Most important: almost all students identify the most common symptoms of COVID-19 (a fever and a cough). Another common symptom is fatigue, although less students have recognized it as a COVID-19 symptom. Our students are also able to indicate some characteristics of the virus, such as the ease of contagion, the possibility of fatal consequences and its declaration as a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO). A very important fact that our students know is that virus diseases, like COVID-19, cannot be treated with antibiotics.
Question 6
Comments
Our students are aware of the importance of searching as much information as possible, watching the news, visiting web pages and reading articles, especially in appropriated and trustworthy sources, such as specialist technicians or the WHO web.
