Snow and nature therapy

  • WHY DOES THE STATE OF SNOW CHANGE?

During the life-sciences lessons, pupils of the Litorina School tried to find out the reason behind the snowfall, water turning to ice and vice versa. They also built beautiful mosaics from coloured ice cubes. During these lessons, the children enriched their cognitive, social, communication and creative abilities, developed their fine-motor skills and broadened their imagination.

    WATER STATE

During the reading of the poem about an ice castle, pupils of the 6th grade tried to build their own ice castle from ice cubes. During the experiment “Water inside the glass” that took place within the confines of their home and by melting the ice cubes within their warm hands, pupils learned about the three states of water: solid, liquid and gas. During the remote teaching lessons, pupils developed the skills to learn by themselves, developed their communication, creative and personal abilities.

    SNOWMAN BUILDING

All of the pupils from 5th to 9th grade built their own snowmen. The process of snowman building enriched their personal and creative abilities, encouraged them to select a suitable building strategy. Having regards to the fact that the initial preparation works took place back then when there was no snow around.

When the cold season hit Lithuania, children used their gathered findings and experience as well as employed their skills by building the snowmen outside. The activity did not stop having put the final touches on the snowmen, the children also had to solve the task and find the necessary materials to build hands, eyes, nose, and mouth for their snowmen. In order to protect their snowmen from cold, children found them hats; some children even put face masks to protect their snowmen from the evil Covid-19 virus. The completed activities built-up the immune system of the children, broadened their imagination, major and fine-motor skills, developed their creative abilities.
