ROLE-PLAY DEBATE
SDG 4: Quality Education
Topic: Ideal School
4 points of view expressed in the role-play debate:
- Students (Czechia)
- Parents (Iceland)
- Teachers (Portugal)
- Employers (Poland)
Preparation – before the event
1. Pre-teaching some vocabulary/ phrases useful for the debate
2. Each country provides students with the above roles and they are supposed to consider the idea of the ideal school from a given perspective, taking into consideration the following points:
size (number of students/ teachers/ classes)
location
single sex or co-educational
open-plan or traditional classrooms
timetable
subjects
equipment
special requirements (eg canteen, library, etc)
others
Debate conduct – during the event
1. Debating in international teams (eg students from Czechia, parents from Iceland, teachers from Portugal, employers from Poland)
2. Reaching a compromise concerning the vision of the ideal school
3. Reflecting the vision on a big sheet of paper
4. Team presentations
5. Voting (each student has 1 vote; he/she places a post-it note on the paper presenting the vision of the ideal school he/she likes best); the winner is the ideal school chosen by the greatest number of students.
