In 4th Junior High School of Petroupolis, Greece 2 ICT classes with 23 students are registered in the project, C2a and C3b

    OUR DIARY ON BOARD

    19 September 2019

Students of C2a ICT class in Athens are introduced to the project and the main "actor" of this year project: the micro:bit!

    23/09/2019

C3b ICT class in Athens is introduced to micro:bit and they have their first project ("my name") and their group photo. The students had run the projects ("name?") they had created in micro:bit testing the BASIC group of commands and the difference among the loops "Forever"/"On start"

The video shows an example of the projects we have created.

Today, C3b and C2a are registered in twinspace and have created avatars for their photos

Also, the students of C2b ICt class had worked on Basic commands and they have created their  first project "Hobby/Sport?":

Today's report, much work from C2a and C3b ICT classes on profiles, twinspace and how posts work, algorithms vs programs, basic  input ways in micro:bit and practicing on these, and checking the turtle in micro:bit (comparison of 2 square projects, one with penup to one with pen down)

    C2a working on their profiles

C2a: About posts in twinspace -How we upload a photo in materials (students' profiles photos)

C2a: what is there behind the blocks?A "real " programming language

C3: simple projects with ready symbols-another way of triggering input: the buttons, A, B and shaking

C3b: How do we download and upload a micro:bit project?

    Exploring the "turtle" in micro:bit

Black box approach of a project with loops

    17-10-2019-EUROPE CODE WEEK!

C3b: Creating micro:bit projects with Greek words and videos to explain them in English (project "Coded Dictionary")

    31 October

Both teams had a session on theoretical background:

Problem, kind of problems, data, restraints/conditions, analysis, sythesis, algorithms and the properties of an optimised algorithms, definition of a program, programming langyage vs machine language, programming environments

They have also worked in a logo-like environment (Microworlds Pro) where a basic algorith was converted into a procedure-comparison of commeand line with procedures and this environment with makecode.microbit and its interface with blocks.

    7 November

Written Test (curriculum) and starting working in a shared google slide about weather vs climate

    14 November

    Weather vs climate

    videos and discussion

Why is it important to be informed of the weather?

What do we mean with climate change?

How could we observe climate change?

What are the measurements that a weather station usually does?

Characteristics of micro:bit (on board) that can be used to create a weather station?

    21 November

Downloading the HEX files of the students in Brakel, Belgium and uploading them on micro:bit to find out their names. Each greek students was paired with a Belgian student. After finding his name on microbit, greeks have visited the Belgian profiles and they have left comments-greetings (1st icebreaking activity) that was absolutely successful and students have liked very much. They have also decided to prepare personal christmas cards to send their holidays Greetings. Also today, the greek  students have watched the Spanish (the elementary school San Francisco deAsis)micro:bit projects , theywere very impressed and they have left messages to these students' profiles.

    28 November

Both classes have created e-cards for Holidays and handmade cards to send to our partners

Link to the Christmas page's Twinboard  and all cards uploaded by students in materials (Petroupolis folder)

5 December: Preparing the activities for the Hour of Code

Both classes had an introduction in the platform code.org

We had also  unplugged activities (graph algoriths) and ways to optimise them and we we had a very joyful time with "angry birds" and with the first steps of "the artist"

Theu had also written messages to our new partners from Tunisia; they had watched their projects in microbit and then messages were written to their peers' profiles

    12 December

    HOUR OF CODE

we have uploaded our work in the shared google slide in the HOUR OF CODE page

and the certificates students have managed to win in the shared google folder

19 December LIVE EVENT AMONG 3 classes: Petroupoli-Avila-Sfax

(We  had last minute rescheduling at school and both classes had worked together in Christmas projects in scratch and on microbit and later that day during the video conference only 4 students could be present)

This video is from our joined classes while students working on Christmas projects in scratch and in micro:bit:

27 February : HAPPYYY STUDENTS! We open the robotics kit and work starts with great enthusiasm.

Many volunteers, and we decide to take turns. Marios, Nikolas and Stavros start and they create the Robotics-Powered Tram

One more team works in inventor's kit and creates a wind power with micro:bit

While the rest of the class works in scratch a "Garbage seeker"  game (here is the gallery  https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/25857506/ with all the projects)

    Gigo micro:bit COMPATIBLE ROBOTS #1269

From 12 March till 18 May Greek schools were closed. After 2 weeks when we were waiting for directions from the ministry we had started working in class and we had 4 online meetings in WebEx. On 21 May we have met with half of the students and in 5 June also.

From the very first days, teacher had tried to reach the students using a padlet and also a mentimeter where students could share feelings. From the 23 students only 7 had participated in the mentimeter

When teacher started assigned homework the participation was a little better but still rather poor. Most of the work was implemented during our online sessions in webex.
