One of the most popular Ukrainian folk dramas is Christmas performance called Vertep. In Transcarpathian variant it is called Betlehem. Children or young people dress up as kings, peasants, shepherds and some other funny cherecters and sing carols performing some parts from the Bible. They go from house to house bringing the news about Jesus Christ's birth.

Here are a few examples of Transcarpathian Betlehem:

The Jews are the guardians of the tomb of Christ in the traditional
Dalmatian tradition of staging the events of Jesus' torment, death and
resurrection. In 1857, a young priest, Ante Gluscevic, of the Italian
Loreto, brought the custom to his parish of St. John the Baptist.
Elijah in Metkovic, from where it spread across the Neretva valley
and later through Dalmatia and the Dalmatian hinterland.

The staging begins on Holy Thursday when the Jews come out in front
of the altar, where the guards alternate between the four of them until
the end of Easter Eve. Judaic customs end on Holy Saturday when "Gloria"
and "Glory be to God on high" are sung. After all the lights are turned
off, a loud sound and a cry was heard: "Jesus is risen", after which all
the lights are turned on again, the eagles fall to the floor and are
    frightened to escape.

In times of communism, in some places, young men who were hired as Jews
were under the watchful eye of the then government and could not get a
job, so they were isolated from society.

This is the performance of the aforementioned drama play:
