Project Meeting in Galatsi
We approach the multifaceted topic of "Unity in Diversity" realising the following tasks:
Labour opportunities in Europe
Each team created a Leaflet/brochure that potentially presents to an immigrant the labor opportunities in each country.
During the meeting in Greece, we shared our experiences and discussed issues concerning labor in our countries. See an overview of this activity in this link
Globalization and cultural assimilation: diversity or unity? That is the question
The Greek team using the following presentation triggered participants' discussion about globalization and assimilation.
Interview with an immigrant about the EU legal context of their stay
Religious tolerance
Before the meeting in Greece, each partner explored the following issues:
- What is the dominant religion in your country? What percentage of people practice this religion? Does the majority actually practice this religion or do they just declare it?
- What religions do people practice in your country? What is the law related to practicing religions in your country?
- How do people of different religions coexist in your country? Is there religious intolerance in your country? Pls, give indicative examples of positive and negative incidents.
- Do you consider that fundamentalism exists in your country?
During the meeting in Greece, we had round table discussions about those issues. See an overview of this activity in this link
The effects of immigrants' culture in our countries
The contributions illustrating the negative and positive effects of immigrants' culture in our countries are available on this electronic board
We shared several terms for immigration issues in all the partners' languages. See this handy dictionary at the following link
Communication: the language barrier
During the meeting in Greece, we organized two interactive activities so that participants approach the implications of language in our communication with other people and the fact that misunderstandings and miscomprehensions highly influence our relationships. You can see information about these activities at the following link
An immigrant success story
During the meeting in Greece, we visited Oscar's chocolate factory. During this visit, we were guided to their premises and got acquainted with chocolate production. Notably, in relation to our project's scope, we approached an immigrant success story as we interviewed the founder of Oscar. In the '70s, Mr. Mimis, who is now a 90-year-old entrepreneur, moved his business from Istanbul in Turkey to Athens. He described to us the challenges he faced to establish a successful business. He inspired us with his persistence and hard work. Also, we were amazed by his attitude towards the newer members of his family, demanding their hard work, thus passing on family values from generation to generation..
