    Short-term exchange of group of people Mobility

    Monday 21st of October 2019

    The opening ceremony to welcome the BOOM Erasmus project delegations in mobility in Napoli started with an introductory speech by the Ristori school headmistress, Immacolata Iadicicco, addressed to host Delegations, Authorities and Ristori Staff and students.

    Authorities were both at national and regional level: high rank officers of the Italian Coast Guard, the city of Naples responsible for Public Education and the Unicef responsible for the Italian Voluntary Civil Service Project were present.

    Pietro Giuseppe Vella, Admiral Inspector and maritime Headmaster of the Port of Naples and Campania Region gave a presentation concerning the general duties and organization of the Italian Coast Guard.

    Marco Patrick Mincio, Headmaster of the Port of Torre del Greco (south of Naples), talked about some specific aspects of the Coast Guard activities related to Search and Rescue operations aimed not to save properties, but just to the safeguard of human lives.

    Annamaria Palmieri, Councilor for public education at the Naples City Council welcomed the audience and stressed the role of Naples as a city of hospitality and welcoming.

    Silvana Galli, representive of UNICEF, introduced a UNICEF Project, developed in the framework of the Italian voluntary Civil Service, aimed to help unaccompanied children immigrants by putting them in contact with young Italians that have applied for a 6 months Voluntary Civil Service.

    Translations in English, when necessary, were provided by Mariangela Di Giovanni English teacher at Ristori School.

    Traditional folkore songs were sung from the choir of Ristori students led by the music teacher Liliana Veropalumbo. The Ristori contact person of the Erasmus Plus BOOM project, Laura Giamattei, thanked all participants for their kind presence to this event emphasizing that the Erasmus+ project is an great opportunity for social and personal growth for both European school administrators and students. A coffee break was offered by the Ristori School.

    In accordance with the activities described in the Project proposal Day 1 and 2 of the Mobility were committed to promote volunteering among students.

    The first Working session started with an interactive workshop held by Unicef volunteers.

    This workshop was part of a school project aimed to sensitise students to the problem of migrants feeling lonely when they arrive as stranger in a foreign country and on the necessity of having volunteers taking care of them. Students were stimulated to figure out migrant feelings and to consider the ideas of became a volunteer.

    The next activities carried out during the first day involved preparation of dissemination materials and promoting activities in support of refugees and asylum seekers. In the afternoon students, in preparation for the Food Bank activity scheduled for the following day, prepared drawings to be used in flyers and brochures aimed to promote the relevance of Food Bank collection for needy people.

    The day ended with a Coordinators meeting, all Coordinators expressed their satisfaction for the present state of the Project and discussed on the perspectives for the remaining part of the Project.

     

    Tuesday 22nd of October 2019

    The second day started with the session “The joy of reading” during this session students talked with each other in a circle discussing the contents of books about discrimination they had read in preparation for the mobility.

    The second activity of the day was about the topic of raising money to strengthen organizations and volunteers who help refugees immigrants and foreigners, according to the project.

    The students in fact listened to the true story of Sister Jeanne Pascale, a catholic nun from New Guinea. She was the Mother Superior until 2016 of the religious congregation called "Servants of the Virgin Mary Mother". She now lives in Rome with the intent of raising money to help orphan children in New Guinea and to build orphanages and other basic facilities for them. The students were involved with emotion and participatory interest to the extremely poor lifestyle of that country and to find a way to help, to the point of singing and dancing in solidarity with the nun. They were also moved by the story of the life spent by the other guest of this activity Samir. He is a boy living at the Reception Center of the city of Caserta, students reasoned on how fortunate they had so far been compared to immigrants children like Sanmir.

    In the afternoon, in completion of the activities described in the Project proposal for the first 2 days and in continuation with the activity carried out the day before concerning the creation of drawings and brochures for informing citizens, students were personally involved in volunteering activity aimed to collect food goods brought by Ristori students families and other local people. A lot of collected food was carried on to the S. Egidio Community Food Bank, in order to be stored for subsequent distribution to people helped by the S. Egidio Community.

    At the S. Egidio Community students also prepared by themselves about 300 sandwiches and helped to cook pasta for the evening meal of homeless people, for needy refugees and asylum seekers.

     

    Wednesday 23rd of October 2019

    In accordance with the activities described in the Project proposal Day 3 and 4 of the Mobility were committed to promote students awareness toward human rights and refugees and asylum seekers rights through listening to witnesses stories.

    The third day open then with the “Young journalists” activity during which students visited the LESS Charity Reception Center and Protection System for asylum seekers and refugees in order to interview some asylum seeker and refugee. They were moved by the stories they heard about and made several questions.

    After lunch students interviewed parents and students from abroad living in Napoli.

    Students finally wrote short Reports on the interviews performed.

     

    Thursday 24th of October 2019

    The morning of fourth day was addressed to Visit to archeological sites and museums.

    In the afternoon students prepared a video on real life stories interviews.

     

    Friday 25th of October 2019

    In accordance with the activities described in the Project proposal Day 5 of the Mobility was committed to promote students awareness toward human rights and refugees and asylum seekers stories.

    The fifth day started with the “Create a puppet theatre story” activity: students first showed the drama prepared in their own country and then they cooperated together to create a connected story having migration as subject. A video of their great performance was shot.

    In the afternoon students visited the museum at Zevallos Palace first and then they worked in order to carry out activities aimed to promote sensibility about inclusion of different people. Many drawings were done by students using a Water colours technique.

     

    Saturday 26th of October 2019

    The sixth day completed the activities aimed to improve students awareness toward human rights with a Ceremony at the statue of the unknown migrant in the harbour of Napoli.

    Activities ended with some administrative work concerning the Assessment and audit of next activities and mobilities, the filling of the Naples “Overall Mobility” Evaluation Form, the preparation of a draft of the present Report and finally with the Farewell Ceremony.
