    Question 3

How much time did it take you to make this film?

This process took us one month. One week to figure out the story, two weeks to create all elements and one week to render the 3D and finalize it.

    Question 5

How many people helped you to create the film?

Just me and my husband Pedro.

    Question 4

Where did you get the idea of film from?

We have always been concerned by the environment, we felt adults are already set in their ways when it came to changing their lifestyles to environmentally sustainable practices but if we could reach and empower kids that could maybe spark something. We though that many of the environmental shorts out there focus on painting a really bad scenario, we felt that the audience avoids these subjects because you can end up rather depressed ,of course the reality of the situation comes as a shock (to learn that most power comes from burning fossil fuels) but we wanted to shift the focus to finding solutions, to empower kids with knowledge that they can make a change.

    Question 2

Did you edit the video by yourself and if you did, how long did it take you to edit it ?

Since everything in 3D needs to be made from scratch there was no editing involved, it was rather a big planning process to define the story, the style and then sketch out our storyboards to know exactly what we were going to tell, how we were going to animate each scene and what resources we were going to use. When all the illustrations for the backgrounds and textures for the characters were made then we put together all the “scenes” one by one, just like theatre scenarios, and the pedro would go in and animate one by one. As soon as a scene was rendered I would add it to an After Effects timeline and start adding the effects. When all the scenes where complete the movie was rendered out.

    Question 1

What did you feel while making this video?

For Renew, there was no filming involved. The main character was created in 3D and animated in a software called Cinema 4D. However, all the textures on the character, the backgrounds, etc, were created by hand, they are all watercolour illustrations made by me that where later placed on the 3D characters by my husband Pedro. The last set was adding the post production “effects” like thunder, sunshine, etc, and in a software called After effects.
