International meeting (C3)

  • The third international meeting was held on May 7-May 9, 2019 in Slovenia and hosted by the School centre Srečko Kosovel Sežana. Goals of the activity were to test and analyze the effectiveness of using digital resources; to learn good practice examples of program-based thinking, design thinking, intercultural competence, transdisciplinarity and virtual cooperation; to learn about natural and cultural heritage of Slovenia.

    Day 1. Reception and guided visit of the school. As part of the project Learn it Today to Manage it Tomorrow the participants got familiar with the school. The tour around the school was guided by local students.

    The meeting was focused on ways of achieving design thinking. During the first day the participants learned about student company XART decor and design, which is registered in Junior Achievement Slovenia, as well as Kingsbox, a small company from Sežana whose owners are the host school’s ex-students.

    Participants visited Srečko Kosovel Memorial Room and got acquainted with the poets’ life and work. In addition to this they heard about the student company which started to promote the poet as well as his ideas, and the city of Sežana as a city of poetry.

    The teachers had a reception at the municipality where they could introduce each other and give a short overview of the project and its’ implementation.

    In the afternoon particepants visited the most well-known natural treasure in the vicinity of Sežana – Škocjan caves.

    The entire morning of the second day was spent at school checking and discussing the materials participants had been devising.

    Teachers presented good practice examples. Participants learned about information presenting technique called Pecha Kucha.

    A student of economics and his teachers presented Robotics, a subject the students can choose as part of their open curriculum.

    Europe's day – market and presentation of different countries. The work at school ended with a visit of a mini market prepared by visual merchandising students. They featured products they created to promote individual European states.

    In the afternoon participants focused on another competence - intercultural competence. For this purpose, a field trip to Triest (Italy) and Piran (Slovenia) was organized. The participants learnt about Slovene minority in Italy and Italian minority in Slovenia. Teachers from Sežana presented the projects related to researching multicultural Triest in the past and nowadays.

    On the third day some of the prepared materials were tested with the help of 1st class grammar school students. The students liked the methods as they were different. Furthermore, they had to use English, which was another challenge. Classes were given by Estonian, Spanish and Dutch colleagues.

    After that the teachers made prints of their hands on canvas for the school wall of European friendship...

    ... and the head teacher awarded certificates.

    In the afternoon participants had a sightseeing tour in Ljubljana where they joined the celebration of Europe day.
