Birthplace of Protestantism

  • The mobility in the Czech Republic took place from Sunday 27th to Friday 1st April.

    Monday

On Monday, we all met in the school assembly where the participants were welcomed by the headmistress of the school, the mayor of Litomyšl and the project coordinator. The Czech students also prepared a small performance which was followed by refreshments and a school tour. The morning programme included ice-breaking activities which helped us to get to know each other better.

After lunch we students were split into groups in order to discover the beauties of Litomyšl town on their own by fulfilling various tasks prepared by the Czech students. At the same time, the teachers went on a guided tour and found out the history and monuments of our town.

    Tuesday

Tuesday morning programme included a workshop on the required task, which was writing a story showing some traditions of each country. The students were divided into mixed groups and had to cooperate together. The task was to draw a few illustrations describing the main points, helping the other groups to understand the story. The output was to share the traditions described in each story. Finally, the stories and pictures were presented to the other groups. The last step was to create the book made of all stories and illustrations.

After a break, the students participated in a presentation on Protestant Churches by a Protestant preacher. The lecture also focused on the Protestant tradition and history in the Czech lands.

In the afternoon, the participants went on the Protestant churches tour in Litomyšl, where we had a chance to meet all the preachers of the local Protestant Churches. They showed us their churches, presented the main principals. In addition, they also emphasised similarities among their Churches and answered our questions. Finally, we visited the Catholic church where we could compare the art culture and architecture between Protestant and Catholic Church.

On Wednesday, we went on a whole day trip to Kuks which is a significant monument of Baroque in the Czech Republic. The trip included a guided tour inside of the castle but also we could admire the unique sculptures in the castle garden representing virtues and vices by Matyáš Bernard Braun.

Next part of the trip took place in the regional city Hradec Králové where we visited the Renaissance White Tower from where we had a beautiful view over the city and its surroundings. Owing to rainy and cold weather, other planned activities had to be cancelled. Instead, we enjoyed free afternoon tasting Czech specialities and visiting local cafés and markets.

    Thursday

On Thursday morning, we met in the school assembly and watched each group presenting the second given task, which was a video about various social issues.
