Social field
The social field try to connect the Roman traditions to our present day with the Saturnalia period as a case of study. In fact the mobility has taken place close to the Christmas season.
Before going to Brno, the students worked on different Social issues. They had to compare Roman Saturnalia traditions with nowaday traditions in our countries. The Saturnalia topics were related to greetings, greenery, candles, holiday, eating, gambling, charity, gifts, debauchery, ... Most of them still continue in other ways currently.
Students used their Saturnalia conclutions to represent and explain one set of topics during a Skype session. Furthermore, all the students could ask and expand their information about each topic.
Students also created one digital presentation using Prezi online. It was about a characterisitc festival or celebration, most of them about Christmas time.
This 4th mobility took place in Brno during the week between the 9th and the 13th of december in 2019. About 15 students from Greece, Romania and Catalonia were hosted in Czech family houses. About 25 students were involved in the project. The planning was this:
- The 1st day, Monday, consisted in visiting the Základní škola HerĨíkova high-school and the initial presentations. Students also started with their first task about creating Kahoots about Saturnalia comparing the customs and traditions in our countries. Teachers finished to arrange the weekly activities.
- During Tuesday there was a great trip to monastery Porta Coeli and Punkva caves.
- On Wednesday morning there was a ceramic craft workshop. After the workshop there was a Roman history master class done by PhD. Marek Vlach from the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Roman objects discovered in the Czech Republic were also showed to the students. On Wednesday afternoon students went to the centrals squares of Brno to visit the traditional Christmas markets and they made a little report using videos and some funny Mannequin Challenges.
- On Thursday morning there were more visits in the historic centre of Brno. Students visited St Peter and St Paul cathedrals and the Brno underground laberynts. During the afternoon students edited their videos and baked Christmas gingerbread.
- During the last day, Friday, there was a cultural performance made by the students of our guest high-school. Erasmus students presented the festival project results using Prezi software and played their Kahoot quizzes.
For this mobility new assessments were created to allow easy check both for oral explanations and team work.
Teachers created new tools for a better dissemination like:
- A paper journal made by Romanian team.
- An Instagram and Twitter account of the high-school of Calaf was used to made a report day-by-day of all the mobility.
- Roman T-shirts for the students and the teachers made by the Czech team.
- As usual high-schools make a little report in their websites explaining the mobility as you can see in the example.
