Christmas Penpals: Our Aims & Objectives

  • Aims/Objectives

    -Cognitive

    • To develop learners’ Christmas vocabulary in four foreign languages (multilingual development).
    • To make our learners consider the definition of Christmas culture, and reflect on what this means to them (e.g. Christmas customs, tradition, etc).
    • To make our learners share relevant cultural information about Christmas with their European partners.
    • To foster them learn about other countries and foreign people (geography, language, culture).
    • To raise learners’ awareness about differences and similarities between different countries.
    • To make learners acquire intercultural awareness by pinpointing cultural diversity (Greek and Turkish culture).

    -Pedagogical

    • To encourage them be a part of a collaborative project joining a community of learners which work together sharing the same ambition via a collaborative thinking and writing process.
    • To encourage our learners to have a penfriend from another country who doesn’t speak the same mother tongue.
    • To develop learners’ collaboration towards achieving a common goal.
    • To develop learners’ personal and collective responsibility as members of a team/group.
    • To make them become active learners.
    • To make learners form attitudes and behaviours.
    • To make learners achieve their own autonomy and control.
    • To motivate learners’ active participation in the educational process.

    -Skills

    • To practise learners’ writing skills in the foreign language.
    • To practise learners’ speaking skills in the foreign language.
    • To practise learners’ listening skills in the foreign language.
    • To develop learners’ collaborative skills both with their classmates and with their partners abroad.
    • To develop learners’ communicative skills in the foreign language.
    • To develop their art and craft skills.
    • To develop their digital skills.
    • To foster our learners be creative by making their own ‘Multilingual Christmas Cards’ presentations.
    • To help them develop their multiple intelligences.
    • To help them develop their multiliteracies.
    • To develop learners' multilingual skills in four languages.

    -Attitudes/Behaviour

    • To make learners develop a positive attitude towards people from other countries.
    • To encourage learners learn foreign languages and be multilingual citizens in Europe.
    • To make them realize that we can share cultural similarities with people from other countries.
    • To make them realize that we can live in peace and collaborate with people from neighbour countries.
    • To make them show respect towards foreign people and foreign cultures.
    • To make them show tolerance towards cultural diversities.
