Christmas Penpals: Our Project Plan

  • Our Project Plan

    Preparatory Stage: Getting to know each other as eTwinners

    (Time Schedule: from 06/11/18 to 25/11/18)

    This is a warm-up stage to motivate our learners, both the Greek and the Turkish school team, to get to know each other as eTwinning partners before the main task. To this end, some stimulating lead-in tasks and funny engagement activities are carried out at the computer lab, appropriate for primary learners, as follows:

    - learners make jigsaw puzzles on the computer which include photos of each one of the two school teams as well as photos of the two towns, Messolonghi and Tuzla (e.g. sights/attractions and landscape/natural scenery), in order to know each other through visual presentations;

    -  Greek and Turkish learners create a word cloud using the Tagul tool with their first names and their national flag and exchange them;

    -  learners are engaged in a webquest activity under the guidance of their teacher in order to find more information about their partner’s town/country (e.g. geography, history, population, etc). They can use wikipedia either in their mother tongues or/and in English or Spanish to read info.

    Main Stage: Christmas Tasks

    (Time Schedule: from 26/11/18 to 16/12/18)

    At this stage, the Greek and Turkish learners are invited to carry out Christmas related tasks in order to develop the main theme of the project towards becoming Christmas penpals in a real-life context, as follows:

    -  learners learn about Christmas celebrations (e.g. history, customs, decorations, etc) in both Messolonghi (Greece) and Istanbul (Turkey) through webquest using the Google search machine under their teachers’ guidance;

    -  both Greek and Turkish learners prepare some national Christmas handicrafts and decorations to show them to their eTwinners by posting them on the Twinspace;

    - both Greek and Turkish learners prepare their handmade Christmas cards using colourful papers and decorations;

    - each pupil of the Greek school teams will ballot his/her penfriend from the Turkish group to make a pair of Christmas penpals by exchanging their cards;

    - the pairs of penpals from both school teams write Christmas wishes and greetings in their cards in four different languages (Greek, Turkish, English and Spanish) using the GoogleTranslate tool;

    - each penpal also prepares a short bio-letter to be attached to his/her Christmas card presenting himself/herself to his/her partner to get to know each other better (e.g talking about their external appearance, hobbies, favourite school subjects/food/sports/colour, pets, family, etc);

    - both school teams could also create a multilingual word cloud with Christmas wishes and greetings in all four languages;

    -  penpals exchange their Christmas cards by airmail.

    Follow-up Stage: Video Exchanging and Feedback Tasks

    (Time Schedule: from 17/12/18 to 20/01/19)

    At this stage, learners are engaged in follow-up activities both to enhance their eTwinning collaboration as well as to evaluate the project process and results, as follows:

    - the two school teams prepare and exchange videos with Christmas songs as well as with Christmas wishes in all four languages (Greek, Turkish, English and Spanish);

    - learners are invited to answer five-star-scale simple questions in English using the SurveyMonkey tool in order to evaluate their whole eTwinning project experience and get feedback;

    - then both the Greek and Turkish learners are asked to express their feelings about the project and their eTwinning experience in order to create a multilingual Tagul word cloud of feelings all together as eTwinners.
