1. INTERCULTURALITY

  • Interculturality - Portugal

The following activities will be carried out during the week of November 19th to 23rd, 2018, in Portugal and will be attended by students and teachers from all partner countries.

Intercultural education aims to promote the recognition and appreciation of diversity as an opportunity and a source of learning for all, in respect for
the multiculturality of today's societies. It aims also to develop the capacity to communicate and to encourage social interaction, creating identities
and a broader sense of belonging to humanity. Our main goal is to analyze cultural diversity in all its aspects and show its importance in the different
    fields of intervention.
The LTT on this theme will be prepared by all the partners, being presented by each one in the host school. The works will be collected in a portfolio.
Teachers and students will follow the Project Methodology.
In each of the presentations/workshops, the debate of ideas will be promoted , there will be games, roleplays and posters about the theme.
During the project, participants will create:
    - questionnaires and surveys, which will be published in the twinspace
    - powerpoints on the theme
    - newsletters on project activities, which will be published in the twinspace
    - a mini-brochure about the theme in printed and online versions, to be published on the website of the schools involved, so that the project
will be visible to the public
    - photographic and video documentation.
The presentation of this activity in Portugal will include the following:
    - St Martin Fair: Tradition: St. Martin's Day is celebrated with chestnuts, a bonfire to jump (for those who want) and good socializing. St. Martin's
cloak is known for being the one that surrounds everyone; hence it is significant for the project theme: Inclusion. This activity includes music,
traditional games, “magusto” (roasted chestnuts), traditional dances. It involves all the classes of the school, including foreign students and students
with special needs. The Parents' Association also joins this event, as well as numerous parents who visit this fair.
    Activities within school subjects:
-Arts: posters and other crafts related to interculturality or those that are representative of local crafts (i.e.wooden toys and metal toys) as well as
    those from the participating countries
-Physical Education: Workshops about traditional games and dances.
-Geography: Learn about the participating countries in our project.
-Music: Learn songs about the countries that participate in our project.
-Language: Reading poems, stories, comics; Learn about the multiculturalism integrated in “Os Lusíadas”, the major work of Luís de Camões, a
    Portuguese author.
The expected result is the development of intercultural skills, conducive to dialogue between cultures, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged groups,
as well as strengthening the foundations of universalism, showing how it can be incorporated into a wide variety of practices. The project activities will be integrated into the annual activity plan of each partner school and in the curriculum of some disciplines, to ensure the
achievement of the specific project objectives.Participants are expected to increase interpersonal relationships through group work, peer work and collaborative methods, raising their cultural
levels and experiences of social interaction. Intercultural dialogue will also be improved, through the exchange of good educational practices. The
schools involved will become more enjoyable places, promoting a more attractive and a more multicultural education.
In the long term, full integration of project results and methodologies in the dynamics of each partner school will be the lever for the development of
educational practices, more conducive to the inclusion of all.
