Introduction

  • Keeping in mind that every student has the right to an education free from discrimination and prejudice, that they all must have equal opportunities to learn and that legislation in EU countries prohibits discrimination in the educational system and supports inclusive education, we have decidednto build this project with partners that feel the same way and have similar problems with school integration.

    Finding ways to fight or prevent discrimination is our goal in order to ensure students’ educational opportunities. Confronting discrimination can be challenging and intimidating, but it is critical to safeguarding students’ rights to learn.

    Implementing inclusive education, encouraging school attendance and encouraging positive behaviours are areas to be developed with the objective of having healthy, sustainable and happy citizens and societies contributing thus, to the goals set by the WHO-Health 2020 for the EU2020 strategy.

    School should be able to launch strategies aimed at eradicating various forms of exclusion and discrimination, such as the eradication of prejudice, xenophobia, racism and gender difference, by striving for the full inclusion of minorities.

    This intercultural communication project involves schools from Cyprus, Italy,  Spain,  Poland and Portugal. Its logic is based on the understanding that mobility, an integral part of our increasingly globalized world, presents challenges stemming from cultural differences that are an intrinsic part of people's complex identities. Therefore, knowledge and awareness of how culture affects communication is essential in effective intercultural communication.

    With the Erasmus+ funding it wil be possible to carry out exchanges between groups of students and teachers from the five countries, enabling them to work together for the development of the project activities and to carry out learning experiences in an international context, allowing for the development of na understanding of the different European cultures and languages and the acquisition of social, civic and intercultural skills for their personal growth. It will also enable us all to discover different solutions to the same problems through the exchange of ideas, sharing of practices and innovative approaches.

    Through cooperation with the partners, the effects will be greater and may have a greater impact than those that could be achieved individually, resulting, thus, in solutions and recognition on a European scale.

    The objectives we would like to achieve with this this project are the following:

    1. To improve pupils’ social skills in terms of tolerance, critical thinking and collaboration;
    2. to improve the participation of students with fewer opportunities and/or with SED, in order to promote equality and inclusion;
    3. to create empathy for problems of inclusion of disadvantaged groups at a local, national and European level;
    4. to raise awareness among students and the educational community of the diversity of European cultures and languages, as well as the value of such diversity;
    5. to stimulate a sense of belonging to a broader community based on values of tolerance and mutual respect;
    6. to encourage equal opportunities;
    7. to implement actions directed towards participatory and inclusive citizenship;
    8. to nurture consciousness of the eradication of prejudice, xenophobia, racism and gender difference;
    9. to implement actions directed to the inclusions of migrants and refugees;
    10. to implement actions directed to the practice of solidarity and volunteering;
    11. to share best practices and innovative approaches;
    12. to increase teaching quality and encourage a more active participation of the school community’s elements;
    13. to promote pedagogical innovation and the transversality of learning;
